On Thursday, September 2nd I'll be doing this task: revision3.com/dan30/task/bake-cookies-hand-out-while-complimentingWhen considering this task, please bear in mind the awkwardness of the first attempted task of D3P0... How can we make sure that giving out cookies isn't as much of an epic failure as soliciting high fives? I mean, the fact that we're giving out cookies won't hurt, but what else? I'll update this post as the discussion moves forward

Find someone else to do it with you, at least to hold the camera or something. That way it will look more official and if you get rejected at least there will be someone to give you moral support.

I agree with cmc. A cameraman is needed. Perhaps you can go to your local mall? More people, more chance for success. Although the logistics might be weird, maybe a better approach would be to set up a booth, like a lemonade stand, except a cookies-and-compliments stand.

Tips?: I wouldn't really ask them if they wanna be filmed or not. Just go up to them with a camera and if they object apologize and keep going. Be in a more populated place so if someone reject you, you can quickly move onto the next person and not awkwardly walk away. Maybe have like a sign on the tray of your cookie plate that says something like HAVE A NICE DAY or something.. And maybe someone could be recording from a distance along with you recording.

I think firstly, hand wrapping the cookies in colorful saran wrap, and adding a little flair like a sticker or a ribbon, will make the cookies look more lagit.
Second: Set it up as professionally as possible, i.e. make like you're a 6 year-old putting up a lemonade stand. Make a sign that says Free Cookies. Also, set it up in a prominent spot, and if you do this... get permission before hand from the proper authorities, a little girl in my city was shut down by the health authority for having a lemonade stand without a permit, seriously GET PERMISSION.
Oh, make sure the sign looks professional too, but quirky, like you.

I agree with having a stand! Something to stand behind always makes things less awkward. Also with having a camera man or maybe a tripod set up near the stand?
Plus, I think that maybe doing this on a college campus would work reeeally well. All college kids want free food. ESPECIALLY cookies.

My suggestion to keep this event from being an EPIC FAIL! is to probably try to stand out in a crowd and make people really interested in what your doing For Example: you could wear your gorilla mask, or do a crazy dance to atract people to come up to you and ask what your doing and after you atract them ask them if they want a cookie. If they say yes give them thier cookie and as they walk away or as you give them thier cookie throw in a very nice compliment. That should get you lots of attention. Good Luck!

1. don't go to a place with lots of old people. 2. try to find a place where you know lots of people 3. try to get to a place with lots of weird people (meaning not boring) ex. a youtube gathering

Dan, you should tweet about it before hand. Like where will you be. make sure the community knows, so people can go and support you, and help.
If you do it by yourself you are more likely to fail.
Also you have this huge community willing to help and support you, USE US

I think that the proper thing to do is to have some sort of sign, though I like the idea of having a Peanuts-style cookie and compliment stand. Make the sign big and clear.
Put it in a public place, make the stand easy to transport, and get a second person to film for you. As for the cookies, if they are homemade, your best bet is a basic sugar cookie. Make sure you have a funky plate to put them on, and keep the extras in a Ziploc container.
Finally, TWEET THE LOCATION! That way, your followers can come by to add to the total as well as offer support. It is proven in group psychology that the larger the group that is doing something, the more likely strangers and outsiders are to participate.

I second the idea of having a stand! Somehow it'll make you look more trustworthy, rather than just handing out cookies randomly on the street. I really do think that would work. However! I don't think you should be the one filming...maybe it'd be better for you to have a cameraman filming, either on place or from a distance. but something like that, yeah. and in a public place with a lot of ppl. gopher it!

I agree with what's being said:
1. There should be a stand, with a sign. 2. The cookies should be wrapped in saran wrap. 3. It should be in/ by a public place, like a college campus. 4. You need somebody else to film it. (perhaps from a distance away)
You should also make stickers that say "Dan's Cookies" on them, and put them on the saran-wrapped cookies.

the above + you should indeed get a few non-complete-strangers to join you and let them get a cookie etc. because like said before "the larger the group that is doing something, the more likely strangers and outsiders are to participate."

Important thing to think about: Dan, Its all about setting.Thats why if you were to do it outside a highschool it would seem very creepy, as you would be telling underage people how beautiful they are while giving them cookies, and someone would most likely call the police. but say you do it in a socially accepted place and manner. This is the best scenario, of you doing this project successfully, I can think of:Say for example (preferably a few days ahead) you go talk to the security at a local mall (the bigger, the better) and ask them if it would be possible to set a table somewhere there, in which you are going to give out cookies (you might have to explain Dan 3.0) Now, once thats done, you would set the table with a nice place mat or Table Cloth. You put a laminated paper explaining Dan 3.0 on it next to cookies that already say "You're beautiful" with icing (or have a plastic wrap with a small piece of paper inside saying a nice quality). Then the action would be much less awkward. ;D You would just sand back and answer the questions people have, and people would be more likely to take the cookies. I really hope this helps, and that this ends up with a better light than the hugging project did.

Also, Dan, you should carry around Dan 3.0 cards with the URL. I am sure people are going to have questions, but if you just tell them the URL, they might not remember it.
