Ok so I’ve been a passive tribist for a while but since I’m obviously not now I thought I’d throw around an idea. I was wondering if I could get some feed back and then see if anyone is willing to start a traid for this thing.
Penpals. Yeah, I know, they’re so last century but what about doing youtube-style? This has probably been done before but and if there’s already a thread like this I’m sorry. Here’s the nuts and bolts I’ve thought up…
1. I need help
-between school and work and family I need someone to process the information I will be requesting in the next bulletin. I need a social network guru who can network in youtube, email, and probably skype; tokbox may also be used since I think we’re going to need a team to work this thing if anyone’s interested. It would also be great if someone was in possession and knowledge of some video editing software.
2. How’s this going to work?
-Well the application is open to anyone who can commit the time.
-Then, (I think), you and two or three others will then be given a youtube channel and pick which days you will post your “letter.” The obvious problem with this is that if we get 300 people on 100 channels it’s going to get complicated….if that happens perhaps we’d combine channels with people posting videos in groups of three everyday—what I mean to say is three people post to each other on Tuesdays, three more on Wednesdays etc…
-After that it gets really simple, you talk to your assigned people. Tell them about you, where you live, and try to find out more about them! (NOTE: Don’t be stupid about handing away information to random strangers. Youtube is open to everyone and as a vlogbrother once said “there are people out there looking for ‘kisses and other’”
This is going to require some man power…
-Another thought was that 7 people would make a channel with each person making a video once a week. These people would interact with each other’s videos while giving insight into their own lives for the summer. This will be the course of action if not very many people are interested.
(I need a techie to find the average summer break duration for, well, the world)
Ok but there are some rules *gasps.* No one likes rules in a tribe but these are basic. Everyone needs some ground rules.
1. Friendship: this is not an online-dating-reality-show, or a drama-gossip channel.
2. This is not a project to voice your cause or to start a debate. The pogobat tribe has plenty of discussions, projects, and debates for that. The point of this project is to further another part of community which, I believe, is interaction and learning about individuals. This is an exercise in making friends.
3. People talking to people about the differences in life without fighting or debating. Let me reiterate the point, FRIENDS ONLY, NO BIG MEET UPS, JUST FRIENDS WHO STAY INTERNET FRIENDS.
4. English is the only language I can speak so since I’m kinda heading off this project (with help!!!!!!) if I’m going to moderate we’re going to have to talk the same way. Sorry? If more people of the same language want to branch off an do something then someone else can organize it (but subtitles in English would be cool because I’d like to follow it)
5. Keep it G people. G, as in, General audience. This is self explanatory…
6. This isn’t a rule but I’m sure I’m going to get this question: “Why are you and these moderators doing the picking of pals?”—Because I said so!—No not really, the thing is meeting a random yet interesting person across the world needs some brains behind it. While we could all just pick our “vidpals” or draw them out of a hat but I think more interesting dialogs would come from people with some similarities and other differences. I think it would probably be most interesting to meet a person with only 2 of the three characteristics, same age, similar occupation, or interests. –hey yeah that’s how we’ll do it…this tribe thing is working as I type
Oh and have fun at this! Really I think it would be cool to have a vidpal over the summer. Some really cool way to get to know someone you might never meet. To sign up for a MODERATOR position post a video response to my video “Vidpals –the adventure is written.” Other signups will commence as soon as the other moderators and I have come together and combined forces. I’m giving us moderators a deadline of 10 days from today. PLEASE HELP. If you have other ideas that I should add to what I have here let me know. It’s not going to be a lot of work if several people pitch in…
Thanks for reading this I hope that even if you don’t get in as part of the project that you watch the adventure on youtube.
Happy nerding,
Thanks
