I'm just curious as to what most people think about appearance modifications (not quite sure what you would call it). I have gauges (size 4g) and people are always asking me why I would do it or telling me that it's gross. I'm not going passed a size 2g, which is only one size more and not very big. I also want tattoos but I'm holding out until I know exactly what I want.
Also, what do you think about plastic surgery or things like nose jobs? I personally don't like my nose and think it is too big but I don't think I would have surgery to make it look better.
Anyways, what are your opinions on it and why do you think people do it? Do you think it could prevent us from moving up in tribal stages?

Okay, I'm all for someone having gauges and tatoos. Really its just another accesorie like an earing. (But if you cover your body in tatoo's its a different story)
Now Plastic Surgery is something else. I say go ahead if there is medical reason to do it (Accident, Born with an abnormal body part). But if you are changing your body just because you don't like how you look, that's not good. A level 5 tribe needs to accecpt eachother the way they are, and that starts by accecpting yourself. So in that type I say "It's your body, and you need to accecpt yourself."

I really don't care if someone wants to modify their appearance.
I, for example, have one of my ears pierced and want to get the other pierced as well.

But I'm ok with it for reconstructional purposes too. Such as if someone got in a reck and their face or another part of their body was damaged.

Yes, when it is used like that Plastic Surgery is one of the best technological inventions ever.

I honestly don't mind if somebody modifies their appearance through tattoos, piercings, etc.
I'm a little torn with plastic surgery, though. It is key to accept your appearance, but if you're so self-conscious that it REALLY messes with how you function (I'll give an example next), then I think it might be okay to have it done.
Like, an extreme example would be I have large, oddly-shaped ears and it bothers me (that part's actually true), but lets just say it bothered me so much that I didn't want to be seen in public and kept myself holed up in my own house, living as a hermit just because of one imperfection.

I'm gonna throw out another question to you guys: Do you think it is attractive?
I'm very picky when it comes to tattoos and piercings on girls. I think tramp stamps are turn offs and things like "one love" or something of the sort on their feet are kind of cheesey. It all depends on what it is. I know this girl who has gauges and had snake bites (just studs, I don't like the rings) but she dressed in a kind of preppy but still kind of punkish looking way. I thought she was really pretty. haha.
Oh and boob jobs are a total turn off too haha.

I'm gonna throw out another question to you guys: Do you think it is attractive? *modifies question slightly* I don't think it really matters. I know that one of the guys I've liked in the past had his ear pierced, but it's not a massive, overbearing thing on his appearance like it would be if he had gauges. Personally, I hate gauges. I think they're gross. But if it's just a piercing or two (or three, but not a huge number), I think its fine.

Well, guages and tattoos are alright if done in moderation(I know this dude who has gauges that are HUUGE! Like, you can fit a dick in it..). Plastic surgeory however is exreme, and should not be done unless needed (Car accident, born with abnormalities etc)

I think gauges are pretty cool on guys, but I don't find it attractive on girls tbh. I personally love tattoos, but a good tattoo, NOT a tramp stamp or just like a word or anything.. more something like this: so yeah, arms are great imo, don't like it too much on legs or chest or stuff like that.. I do want to get a tattoo myself eventually, but I need to lose some weight before I do that and take care of some skin problems.

I don't think its a moral issue at all (ie.: its not wrong) but I do find it a bit silly. I mean, I just don't get why you'd want to do that. On the other hand, I guess its your body, so go ahead and poke holes in weird places if that's what you feel like.

Your body, do what you want with it. Personally I like the idea of tattoos, and I have pierced ears, but plastic surgery and body piercings are not for me

first off piercings and tattoos ect are called body modification. I myself have a few piercings and tattoos. (Ears gauged to 5/8ths, septum ect)
The only issue I have with plastic surgery is when females get it because they are conditioned to believe some part of their body isn't perfect, because of the idealization/emphasis on the female body in our society. It all roots to patriarchy. I also dont like the fact that being able to get plastic surgery is an issue of privilege.

Piercing/Gauges: I have nothing against them. If people want to do that, it's totally their decision. As for whether or not it's attractive, it depends on the person. I don't think there's anything inherently attractive about huge gauges, but I wouldn't mind if someone a had them. Tattoos: If they have meaning, then they're great. If someone gets it just to be cool, and it's some dumb picture that means nothing, I don't see the point. Plastic surgery: I'm against it. I think plastic surgery endorses superficiality, because people want to look perfect, so they alter their appearance. And I think this is unnecessary and people should be happy with their appearance no matter what. What I said about plastic surgery may seem to contradict the other stuff I said, but I don't think a person ever thought, "I would be more attractive, if only I had bigger holes in my ears or if I had a picture on my arm." I think tattoos and piercings are more about self-expression, whereas cosmetic surgery is about striving for perfection with one's appearance.

I actually don't care if anyone changes his/her appearance but I do think that we need to try being happy with ourselfs and that plastic surgery should be only used when a person is having disadvantages from a certain body part (e.g. if they get restricted because of something or are having depressions of people laughing out them etc.) and not "ow wait someone said that you need to have a nose that looks like this and this to be beautiful/attractive"..

In the book of Dan Brown "The Lost Symbol" the bad guy thingish says something shich sums this up quite nicely: "The human spirit craves mastery of it's body" or something like that. I personally think every of the things are okay aslong as the person knows what he/she is going into. Also, I would never get eny of the things done to myself since i think most of it is ugly... but aslong as i don't have to live with it then i don't really care.

It's not really my say what people do with their bodies.
I like piercings and tattoos, and I wish my boobs were bigger than what they are, but I don't know if I'd go as far as to get surgery done though.
