Books should not be censored. It is free speach as long as you don't take some of the things discussed in the books literally. Such as Ragnar Benson's books meant for information only.

I agree with Nick. Fahrenheit 451 fo sho. I actually really liked that book. I do not think things should be censored. And going further than books, how about stuff like UFOs and stuff. How the government just hushes it all up? Let us have it. We have the right to know.

I don't believe in censorship at all. If parents are scared of their children knowing what really happens in the world, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

censorship of our books should be avoided at all cost that is infringement of a first admendment right and that is a huge limitation on culture.

I believe that censorship IN SOME VERY SPECIFIC CASES may be okay. I beleivve it very much depends on the tastefullness of the racism, sexual scenes, etc and the age of the book along with other contributing factors. I say this simply because I feel it would be wrong for a book to be published today that condonned racism, for example.
One thing that does really bother me is the amount of books written today, targetted at middle aged women, which are about child abuse. I am not saying that child abuse should be ignored, or that peoples experiences of child abuse should be censored, I simply worry that this level of exposure is bad for a community.

Books should not be censored; if you don't agree with ideas presented in a book then don't read it. It's that simple. You don't need to burn books or ban books to get them to stop being talked about, you just need people to stop reading them. It's unfair that because of 'popular demand' certain books can be banned from places; everyone's taste is different and everyone's ideals are different. It seems, in America's case, unconstitutional to ban books considering the 'Freedom of the Press' that is supposed to be present in our country. If we can have tabloids and have crazed paparazzi not get punished for anything or have their work taken away why should it happen with books?
Books are ways to other worlds, and they are ways of escaping hardships present in your life, why take away someone's form of dealing with their problems because a few dozen OTHER people don't like it? If every time a group of people disliked things present in a book it was banned our bookstores would be empty because there will ALWAYS be groups of people trying to get rid of outside influences.
So yea, in my opinion it's wrong to ban books, people will read what they like whether it's banned or not, but banning books in my opinion IS unconstitutional because of that little bit of 'Freedom of the Press.' That freedom is very important to me, considering how much I read.

I am against censorship. Censorship is very subjective. It is very hard to define what is and is not tasteful. Opinions vary. The Supreme Court had a hard time figuring this out too. To my knowledge, the official constitutional definition of pornography amounts "I know it when I see it."
