You mean the physical requirements? If so, what happened to "Well, it has nothing to do with women being weaker than men, or not being emotionally as tough as men. "?
Another implication of the love argument is that young men in the military often have a DAMNED powerful sex drive. How many of our soldiers have gotten jiggy with young women from the countries in which they're posted, whether at a time of war or not? Does that mean we should castrate our male soldiers for the sake of ensuring that they don't do anything "that anyone in their right minds would not even think about doing."?

Allow me to enlighten you! I am not against women joining the military, period. I already said that my concerns about women joining the military had nothing to do with women often being weaker than men, period. However, if women wanted to be treated as equals (which I believe they should), they need to work just as hard as everyone else does. You don't get special treatment because you're a woman. Charlie is not going to stop firing at you simply because you are a woman. You are an American insurgent, and you need to be as strong as the military needs you to be in order to be a US insurgent. PDBAZ!

I agree that straw men are aggravating indeed, but I'm not sure that pointing out implications exactly constitutes a straw man. And when a statement has glaring inconsistencies and contradictions, I tend to want to point them out. I digress, though, and will concede that the military needs folks that can keep up. The next statement sounds bad, but here goes. The 'diminished returns' on accepting women who are physically fit to a woman's standards (I agree that a fit woman tends to exhibit lesser amounts of strength than a man to a somewhat small degree) would not appear, to this outsider, to be a horrible detriment to military operations and functions. So far as I know, women in the military can keep up on the forced marches. Generally, so far as I know, they can keep up on typical exercises. So far as I know, a woman is physically strong enough to pull a trigger. So far as I know, women have eyes, and can aim. The military women I've met were not delicate flowers incapable of fighting back. They were military women, and if Charlie was firing at them, I'd trust they'd fire back.

Do we even need a military? Unless every military in the world is willing to drop their guns at the same time as us, my answer would probably be yes.. It is an intriguing thought, though!

No we don't.. at least that's my opinion. Look at Japan, they don't have an army and they're a flourishing country. Okay, they're weird as SHIRT, but that's it.

I'll keep this short so as not to monopolize.
I want to agree, but I can't, Crrack. Look up the Japan Self-Defense Forces. It's a military everywhere except on paper.

Of course. Women and Men have equal rights, they join if they want.

@crracktheskye, you are wrong about Japan, they have one of the best fleets in the world.

If they can vote, if they can work, if they can own property, if they can have equal rights as men, they can serve in the military. I'm not against women's rights, but if they want them, there are responsibilities that come with them.
Physical ability is no problem. If they are too weak to use a machine gun, they should not be in that post. I think that women aren't that weak.
