The WBC is crazy. The stuff they protest is all pretty much made up with barely any fact from the bible. So they're argument has no logic or fact behind it whatsoever. Plus, it's practically impossible to get through to them because they won't even listen. FNC prank called Shirley Phelps. It's hilarious and FNC proves she has no idea what she's talking about so many times haha XD www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfDoqqWdR7A

Just read that whole thing. Wow. It's truly touching and devastating at the same time. It's hard to suppress the urge to just stoop to their level, and kidnap the kids with Fred at gunpoint to teach them how the world really works. Of course, that would be terrorism, and not exactly what we want to teach those poor souls about the outside world, but it's still a compelling urge.

I'm reading it to, and I suspect I too am going to end up reading the whole thing! It's really interesting so far...

I just finished reading it...and that guy is messed. I mean, I just thought that he had a really strong view on Christanity, but I didn't realise he was literally crazy. I mean, how can someone say being homosexual is wrong and then go and justify physically abusing his kids?!

It's a pretty sad tale, isn't it? The fact is a lot of extremists -- even nuts like that -- are otherwise perfectly normal, and it's only their dogma that's getting in the way of their morality on the one or two issues they're extreme on. But Phelps is a whole different kind of creature. He's just plain messed up, and there's no two ways about it. I feel sorry for Nate, and at the same time I'm glad he's managed to get out of it and find himself a life elsewhere.

WBC showed up to protest a speaker at our university. Something about a Jew getting to speak to young people was damning everyone. At a counter-protest across the street my big brother held up a sign that said "NOT TODAY BITCH!" That day was made of awesome.

LMFAO! Yeah, that sign would be pretty amusing. Probably not the best response, but humorous.

I feel like the WBC go round thinking they are offending the crap out of everyone, but in reality they offend about 5% of people and the rest just enjoy making fun of the crazy people. I mean, obviously what they do is wrong, but I hardly recoil in horror everytime I see them.

The one good thing about the WBC is that they are so far out there that no even remotely rational person will ever have nightmares about taking them seriously. Much as they piss me off, I take solace in the fact that they are nothing more than a loud-mouthed fringe group.

T - When they picket soldier's funerals, a group of motorcyclists often turn up and park between the picketers and the funeral, waving large American flag. Sometimes hundreds of them.
If they want to protest someone who is protecting their right to have a religion, or even to protest, then they are total and complete idiots.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE WILL PISS A LOT OF PEOPLE THE HELL OFF
DISCLAIMER: I DON'T CARE
There's no debate that they are crazy. Everyone here apparently knows that. However, I think they are the most observant Christians on the planet. They always have a verse to back them up. I don't mean to say that I agree with them (I'm an atheist), but I think that they get what the bible really means.

Nah, you can't call Poe's Law on these guys. Read the link to Nate Phelps' story I posted above. natephelps.com/10801.htmlThese guys are well and truly messed up; nobody takes a troll that far. Hell, if someone did take a troll that far, they would be well and truly messed up for that reason anyway. Even when Anonymous took on Scientology, as a comparing point, it wasn't trolling at that point, they were actually out for them. (Doh, sniped. )

I don't mean to say that I agree with them (I'm an atheist), but I think that they get what the bible really means. I can not agree with you on that. The Bible is not written in facts but on intepretation. Every Christian has another opinion about a verse. Some say one verse means this, and the other person beliefs that it means something else. The bible is pure fiction, and people who belief all have a different perspective, it is how YOU interpret a verse, not how others think you should it. Sadly, there are a lot of different churches and they all read the bible in a different way. Some churches say that war is good because in Exodus it is explained that god is a man of war, while other belief that God is only a man of war in times of war e.g when wars are waged, God is only a third party. Some people say that wars are waged BY God and not THROUGH God. Funny thing is, in the Roman verses, it says Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen. As you can see, a clear contradiction. The WBC reads the bible different to interpret some verses different than other Christians. And most of the time do it in a weird way.

Protesting the WBC is one of the hardest things to do. I've seen interveiws of them and they seem to get off on the hatred of others. The best form of protest i've seen were very passive ones. Like the one where the guy rick rolled them. My favorite though was during this protest of some soldiers funeral this group of bikers with a bunch of flags rode in between the protesters and the actual funeral to block the protesters from veiw. It was really passive, and didn't directly acknowledge them. They seemed to hate that because they went home before it was over. Thats the best way to protest them, just by doing things that prevent them from being assholes without directly acknowledging them.

Best way to protest them: have same-sex couples kiss in front of them. Even if two friends aren't gay, they should do it just to prove a point.

You're talking about the Patriot Guard Riders. These guys are absolutely epic. Their entire deal is to sit between the family and funeral and the WBC protesters while revving the engines on their bikes. www.patriotguard.org/Initially the plan was to just shield the grieving friends & family as much as they can, but it quickly turned into an absolutely wonderful form of peaceful protest that the WBC lawyers cannot fight in any way. Also, the WBC has a habit of suing cities that don't allow them to picket citing the First Amendment. "Yes, lets hate the US until the laws work in our favor!"
