I don't know what hellokitty has to do with this topic, take it somewhere else. Most smokers do not want to quit smoking so I don't think this product is targeted to (only) those who want to quit smoking. With that said it is still a healthier alternative, to cigarettes. I don't know why you would relate this to children, of course it will get (much) more people smoking. Generally, people who don't smoke do not because they 'hate the smell' the smell which is the tabacco smell, without that there is nothing to hate. So what if children smoke e-cigarettes? Whats wrong with that? Woaaaah... What? People who don't smoke do it because they hate the smell of tobacco? What the hell... I don't smoke, but I rather enjoy the smell of cigarettes, care to explain that paradox in your logic? And so what if children smoke e-cigarettes? Do you not care about the health of children at all? Sorry if I sound like I'm personally attacking, I do not mean to be, it's just that that post through me for a bewildering loop. A lot of people who don't smoke don't do so because they do not like the tobacco smell, e-cigarettes (supposedly) will have no tobacco smell - therefore less people will object to them. There is actually no paradox in my logic, since I did not say that people who enjoy the smell of cigarettes will enjoy smoking. If you, like many others enjoy the tobacco smell, then e-cigarettes won't really effect you that much. I have friends who like you enjoy the odd drag, or who enjoy people smoking next to them but what is it to do with e-cigarettes? I care about my health the same way children should care about theirs. The risks of smoking both e-cigarettes and regular cigarettes are well known - so what is the difference between e-cigarettes and regular cigarettes? People are speaking against e-cigarettes because children would smoke them - I would rather have my kids smoke e-cigarettes than regular cigarettes, since it seems to have lesser of a health risk. We are not discussing smoking here, we are discussing e-cigarettes.

You can't discuss one without discussing the other.

I don't think that the electronic cigarette is being marketed towards children at all! I think it is a great idea for people who want to stop smoking or people who want the nicotine and not the smoke. "Here, buy this cigarette" and "Here buy this different cigarette" Are not different at all, and really that's the way it's being marketed (or so I understand) They're not saying "Hey kids! (insert ad for product here) " So honestly, there's nothing to worry about.

Personally, I think we should just keep gradually and slowly upping cigarette taxes until they're so exorbitantly unaffordable that anyone rich enough to afford them can afford the lung cancer treatment, and is greatly helping out the community in the process. XD

I think the e-cigarette is a great idea. There is a woman in my econ class who uses one, and nobody has a problem with it. They are discreet, odorless, and much better for the smoker (and everyone around them) health-wise. I think that if people are trying to quit smoking, more power to them! Honestly, its the smell and health hazards in smoking that I have a problem with. Not the addiction. And in terms of advertising towards children: I haven't seen ANY ads for them. The only reason I know anything on the topic is because I did some research after I kept seeing these little puffs of water vapor in the econ classroom. But I still think they should be FDA tested, just in case. And it couldn't hurt in quelling some of the e-cigarettes opposers.

XD This will simply not work. While I do not smoke myself, I have spoken about this at length with my partner, who had been a smoker since his early teens. He would scrap and scrounge and save every last penny in order to buy his cigarettes, and borrow the difference. Failing that, he would bum cigarettes from those who COULD afford it. As for the treatment: doesn't help those of us North of the border. My partner has recently quit smoking with the aid of electronic cigarettes. While the nicotine addiction was overcome quickly enough in his case, it was the habit that could not be broken. He LOVED smoking; he just hated what it did to his body. So, he discovered a brand of electronic cigarette that was available with NO nicotine whatsoever, but was simple water vapour and flavouring. "Cheater cigarette" jokes notwithstanding, he doesn't need to sacrifice the social aspect of being a smoker, or all the other aspects he loves so much (which, I admit, I shall never understand). I love that these devices have allowed him the opportunity to live a healthier life, without the struggle of feeling he's sacrificed something he loves for it.
