Not everyone wants to download Skype to chat with people, Zang. Even if people already have Skype downloaded, they may not necessarily use it. Personally, if you guys used something like MSN, even though I do have it... there's no way I'd bother joining that chat. It's a lot easier to just click a button. No download clogging up your computer. No extra IMing program to bother with. Just a window in a browser... Yes, it is quite annoying to have to message someone, too. Every time I want to join that chat, I have to end up asking like 3 people on Skype. It ends up taking like 5 minutes just to get in. With IRC, all you have to do is click a button embedded on the site, press connect, and bam. You're in.Further, if you do not desire to be in that non-stop notification madness 24/7, when you leave, you have to go through the process of asking all these people and waiting 5 minutes again, just to get back in. With IRC, all you have to do is close the window and click the button again. That's not an invalid argument at all. Also, there's a constant stream of new people joining the IRC Chat. Because it is so difficult to find out about and join the Skype Chat, it's almost always the same people. Boring. Honestly, Zang, I think you and a few others are just reluctant to join because, if you do, you'll miss an ample opportunity to spite me. Lame. IRC Chat is the logical choice.

I don't get it. All the things you said are not hard to do at all. Ask people that are always there like Jon or Erin. Really. And I leave all the time and someone adds me back. Really. And if you're too lazy to fucking download a small program to talk to people, you'll lazy as hell. Really. And the same people are boring? I enjoy talking to people everyday. Sorry if we don't fulfill your want of new people to talk to.

Zang, nothing we ever do will please you. I know you like creating conflict, everybody knows. It's very obvious.
Just let the people who enjoy IRC use it, and the people who enjoy Skype use Skype. It's very simple. No need to argue. You don't like IRC? Cool, don't use it. Problem solved.

Skype does not work for a community this size. I found it weird that the IRC was so neglected when I joined on here. + You can do great things with irc, which would not work with skype. Good job on getting it embeded.
With that said, the embedded irc client is kinda annoying. but it will work for the time being.

It's not that I don't like IRC, I'm just pointing out that Skype is better, in the same way I would point out how a pc is better than a mac :/

It's not really about that, Zang. It's about which has an advantage over the other. IRC has a major advantage over Skype. You can't even deny that.

Sorry if we don't fulfill your want of new people to talk to. The problems which bree mentioned with Skype, could as you say be bypassed. But what are the problems with IRC? More users using IRC means we can increase chat-forum interactivity in the near future. I have a lot on my hands right now, but when I have some free time I'd like to help work on irc-forum integration, and an irc bot with some forum functionality. ps. Zang, IRC has been popular since the 90s, if it sucked so much as you say it does - it wouldn't have survived all this time. I usually agree with you on most things zang, but an active IRC room is something that would benefit everyone. Even yourself.

Nobody's forcing you to use IRC. If you like Skype better, then you can use that.

Nothing, but skype is better. How? Unless you are using mic or webcam, I cannot understand how skype would be better than anything else.

Well, the chatting looks better. Easier to quote. You can edit and remove your messages. Way more emotes. You can send files. You can play games, but no one ever does =P IMO, Skype is better.

Do you realize how many IRC clients there are out there? IRC is so insanely customizable, it's... insane. 2. Again, quoting depends on the client. I love the way mIRC quotes. 3. I do admit that Skype has an advantage with the editing/removing. I love that about Skype, and no other program has it. 4. The emotes depend on the client, or just aren't there to begin with. 5. You can send files on IRC! 6. There are sooooo many fun games on IRC. So... 1/6

Search pidgin. You can have your emotes, pretty sounds, aim/msn/gmail/icq and irc. and you might be able to find a plugin for skype.
