It is not necessary to find an already life sustaining planet to move to unless we have to move urgently, which would even me plausible since we don't have that great travel technology yet. Terraforming is a way to alter a planets atmosphere to allow it to sustain life. We are no where close to this technology yet as you also need a stable gravitational field as stated before, but researchers have already brainstormed idea's on how to terraform on a gravitationally feasable planet. I REALLLY want to read the Mars trilogy books now

But anyhoo... I think that humans can be easily wiped out with a mass-extinction long before the earth will crumble to bits and pieces. The earth is (aprox.) 4.6 billion years old... and we have experienced A LOT of mass-extinctions. What could even break apart the physical structure of the earth?
