I think that most of us can agree on what Universal Happiness actually is or consists of, even if we don't all agree whether it is achievable or not. My question is, what can each of us do to help the Universal Happiness cause?

Well I suppose that all depends on what goal we want to reach first.
Almost anything positive has the potential to help us move towards universal happiness. Therefore if we decide on working on ending world suck, or help give access to information for everyone, it should still lead to the same road.
In a way I suppose that as long as you try your best at being awesome you'll be helping in the noble cause.
Great question Sara ;D

Universal Happiness is a big thing...and I am a rather small person Thank you!!

^ But we are a big tribe! Amirite? I think we just really need to find a small goal to start this noble cause.
How can we make people happy? We can donate money to build wells we can volunteer at a retirement home.. (That sounds an awful lot like community service.)
It's the little things that makes a person's day in the beginning right?

See, that's the problem here.
We can all picture this end goal. We all know what the right things to do are. We have that down, easy.
The hard part now is to act as a Tribe. We've had a bajillion project ideas posted on the forum, but really the only ones that have had any action are the ones that are purely Internet. Which is good, don't get me wrong, but if we're going after something like UNIVERSAL happiness, we have to be able to log off and DO something. We need to take some time to move our Tribe from purely Internet into the real world.
If we can't act outside the forum, we'll never get bigger than the forum.
Do we really want our Noble Cause or is this just an idealistic idea that will have its place in the dusty corners of our minds?

Do we really want our Noble Cause or is this just an idealistic idea that will have its place in the dusty corners of our minds? I completely get what you mean. I think that a good solution to that would obviously be to have meetings and events for the members of the forum to attend and take action, as well as maybe a weekly or monthly goal for the all of the members who can not meet in person to complete. People who don't have a way of transportation and such.

That's actually a great idea Sara. *highfive*
Hmm.... So, do the administrators still do weekly meetings? Maybe the Tribe could be a part of those. Like, the admins are there to bring up the important things, keep people on track, do admin-type stuff, but the whole Tribe could be involved with the discussion.
I mean, that's kind of the purpose of the forum, but with so much information and so many users, it gets hard to keep track of who's doing what. Actual (semi-) face-to-face, real time meetings would be a great tool to keep people informed of the big picture.
So, let's see what we have so far for the Noble Cause....
As a Tribe, we will achieve Universal Happiness by promoting... *Ending World Suck *Universal Equality *Open Global Communication *Open Knowledge to Everyone, Everywhere *Global Peaceful Coexistence as well as other goals that are formed around our Tribal values.
In order to further our Noble Cause, we will act as a Tribe and strive to be the highest level we can be at all times. We know that in order to achieve our Noble Cause the Tribe will have to become better organized, focused, and informed. We will have to act not only on the Internet, but also in real life. We will have to work both on a global and a community scale. We will have to embrace our values.
What else?

andromeda I couldn't have said it better myself. I doubt there is much to add to your summary of this thread and the overall Noble Cause.
I suppose now we see if anyone doesn't agree with it... Not sure how to get everyone to read it and agree if thats the noble cause they want though.
but you have my vote for sure.

I've seen a million times that the Noble Cause can't be too specific or too vague. Why can't it be specific? Why can't we make sure every child in the world has a pair of shoes?

because there would still be a need for the tribe once every kid had a pair of shoes. It might serve as a goal towards an end but not as a noble cause

All of those 6 causes sort of flow into each other and they are all in some way a part of ending world suck. So by ending world suck we can accomplish the other 5 causes and probably everything else we want to do so unless we're trying to be more specific about this whole thing I guess we're done.

I simply think that universal happiness requires a lot of things to be done- world peace, curing all disease, liberty and freedom for everyone on earth... All of these things that by themselves would be great noble causes to start with. Universal happiness is a much too broad thing to work towards, because realistically, it is unattainable. I suggest that we have a few noble causes that we can realistically work towards. Take universal happiness- where do you start? How do you even begin to try to achieve that? How about world peace? That is something that we can realistically reach through peaceful protest and stuff like that.
*I'd also like to note that my favorite is open knowledge to everyone, everywhere, because it is a)reasonable and b) exteremly important.

Why don't we just think of a list of charities, then ya know pick one or a few and promote the SHIRT out of them. The only way something gets noticed is by people talking about it. What do we have? A forum of people who don't stfu. There you go we're noble enough to support charities. We're noble enough to HELP PEOPLE. Maybe you can pick things that helps the spread of knowledge.
I SOLVE ALL POGOTRIBE PROBLEMS. Really, y'all should just make me the leader.
