And I reckon that by having access to illegal movies it has then in turn given more money to the film industry through films I wouldn't have otherwise bought. Try explaining that logic to the film companies, but I agree.

I'm certain it's legal in Canada, so at least for myself my statement applies. I believe it is in the states too -- you see, the illegal part of it is the copyright infringement part -- that is, making an illegal copy of a copyrighted file. The person making the copy is the uploader, not the downloader. Every tried case in the states so far has been an uploader charged.
If you're using a torrent of course, you are sharing at the same time as you download, which of course means you're infringing as well.

The criminal justice system in the United States is incredibly screwed up. Why is putting someone in a cage the default punishment for any wrongdoing?
Prison should be reserved for the worst violent offenders, the ones who literally need to be isolated from society for our protection. Mainly, I think it should be limited to rapists, murderers, gang members, and maybe some batterers (depending on the circumstances)...there might be a few other exceptions that I can't think of at the moment, but those are the main ones that should warrant a prison sentence. Everyone else should be turned loose.
There are ways to punish most people without isolating them from society in a cage where they are raped on a daily basis. In addition to being a gross violation of human rights, when they leave prison they're embittered and likely to commit crimes again.
As for specific laws that I think are unjust...there are far too many to list here. But let's start with ending the ridiculous war on drugs.

Over here in Canada land, I take up issue with a few laws, but nothing really grinds my gears like this one does. Lets say for arguments sake, you are in a park, known for drug trafficking, a police officer comes up to you, states he has reasonable grounds to search you for drugs, so he does. Instead of finding drugs he finds an illegal firearm. He cannot arrest you. Because in theory he was searching for drugs which he had the right to do, but because he didn't find any he must discontinue the search.
I don't know if its like that anywhere else, but thats ridiculous... I agree police should need reasonable grounds to search you for something illegal, but if they find something else illegal or dangerous they should have the right to arrest you., so long as they had the original reasonable grounds in the first place to conduct the search.
Idk, is it like that where everyone else lives? In the USA?
