or possibly get a real world job...i mean i know youtube provides for his needs, and he really doesnt NEED to get a real world job, but i think it would be a valuable experience.

OK, first things first,Janake is right. Secondly, to make this right we have to be specific, or there will be TOO many ideas, and none of them will be voted up. So all we need to do, is pick a world problem for Dan to try to solve, and make good ideas for him to solve that problem. If we wanted to, we could make him fly to Africa and give out food. We could make him try to go on T.V., and raise money for charity. It can happen, you guys are just thinking too small.

I agree with dbranting. We should'nt make him do pointless things that we would just like him to do. But keep in mind he's also putting us in charge of his day-to-day activities, as well as serious long-term goals. So we could tell him to fly a kite one day or something simple like that. Hmm, i didnt take this into account. your right. we are in charge of eating, sleeping, etc. so simple things during the day will help. |

I definitely do NOT think we should do anything like making him go back to school, making him propose to Danielle, making him drink a Coke, etc. Those are all terrible ideas in my opinion. The way I see this, Dan is putting a whole lot of trust in us, and we have a whole lot of opportunity. The LAST thing anyone should care about is Dan's personal life issues. Let him deal with those the way he wants! There are so many important and prominent things we could accomplish through Dan, s stop worrying about what he does when he fucking wakes up. Forget about Dan for a second, and ask yourself what you would do if you could change anything in the world. Ask yourself what you would say if you had a voice that could be heard by millions. Once we answer these questions, we can figure out how to accomplish these things using Dan as our puppet of sorts. |

I think we should have him learn some skills. Like how to bake, cook, sew, carpentry, etc! Fun life skills that most youth have long forgotten due to the instant gratification of just buying thing.

I like the idea of him becoming Mayor of his city. He always talked about running / becoming president one day, and this can be a good start for some experience.
I also think a fun idea is to send him to Rubik's US Nationals in Cambridge Massachusetts. Although there are a large number of cubers who are better than him, he got alot of people into the sport itself. The competition is from August 6th - 8th.

A few random ideas:
-We need some way to keep him health and stress-free so that he can change the world as much as possible. Perhaps have him run/bike/work out regularly. Maybe have him do a couple of races?
-Have him do something to help the homeless in some unique way.
-Similar to what some other people have said: Have him watch a documentary or read a book about a specific social issue, then have him do a 5-10 minute report on it.
-Once per month have him tell the community a riddle for us to solve. Have Dan say one per day for the following three days.

I for one don't think we should tell him to go back to school, one of the main reasons he dropped out is for this project and if going back was one goal doing more goals would be alot harder seeing as he would have to study + go to class everyday.I also think people in the comments saying "drink a whole bottle of mayo" should focus on bigger goals, things that could help the world like if Dan did something really good for charity or global warming etc.

i would like to see him build a Rube Goldberg machine. it doesn't have to be long and it doesn't have to do anything but it would be an inexpensive idea for the beginning of Dan 3.0

Personally I'd like Dan to grow out his beard again. It would be quite cool to see it after 1 whole year.
There are a lot of ideas I have in my head but I'd rather have them perfect then post the crude ideas I have now.

Regarding charity causes, I just started a thread called the "Party to Decrease World Suck" Anyone interested in the charitable potential of Dan 3.0, I invite you to join the conversation there.
Also, making him propose to Danielle would violate his rule that we can't change his relationship status. He should propose to her only if/when he's ready to make a lifelong commitment. That's not something that should be decided for him by a bunch of people on the internet.

As much as I'm a fan of education, I don't think we should make him go back to school. School is very time consuming, and I think his time should be kept open to being flexible to all the other stuff we're going to throw at him. Personally, I'd like for him to do some traveling, specifically working with Shawn Ahmed of the Uncultured Project in Bangladesh for a time, but perhaps also some other traveling. School would be very restricting on his schedule.
