So Dan's a professional zombie now. This won't change the world. I'm extremely disappointed.
Your thoughts? PDBAZ

The community is in complete control of how this project turns out. It will only fail if we let it fail. Since we have complete control in this project, if we want to make it a success, then we can make it a success. If we want it to be for entertainment, we can use it for that. If we want it to change the world, we can use it for that too!

I think people got their expectations a little bit too high. This is a terrific idea, but everyone was expecting to be blown away, so it doesnt seem as good

I think people got their expectations a little bit too high. This is a terrific idea, but everyone was expecting to be blown away, so it doesnt seem as good Hit the nail on the head. A bunch of us (myself included) have been ripping on the project mercilessly. I think the single biggest issue isn't the project itself, but it almost established a false context. Ergo, a bunch of us are saying we're disappointed in the project, phrased in many different elaborate ways. Inevitably, it's coming across as "We're disappointed in Dan, and his BAD project." <---Which obviously isn't the case. I'm still pretty stoked to see how it goes, and it's a really cool social experiment. But many of us were expecting so much more than a social experiment. In my mind, it's like expecting a new MacBook Pro for Christmas...And then getting an iPod. Really, the iPod is awesome...But...It's not a MacBook Pro....Aaaaw.

PC > Mac
I just hijacked your thread *troll* :-D
It's bad when compared with many ideas people had for the project... but of course others could do them. It's bad when compared to the talents wasted by this community he built. It's bad, as you said, when compared to the hype that was thrown it's way. While not a segway... yea.... that.

I think it's going to be like a multiplayer The Sims thingy Probably not exactly multi-player (since there's only one "character" - Dan), more like 240,907 people trying to play single-player The Sims.

What could we suggest to Dan to change the world (hopefully) for the better?

What I was expecting the project to be was some sort of of accredited online educational institution (like a correspondence school database) which would be free or next to free - Thus being the new wave of post secondary education which would be obtainable by anyone with an internet connection, rather than just the world's financially elite. (We're talking waaaay above and beyond any form of wikipedia or google search) But ofcourse that's what MY imagination came up with. ^^^Going off topic, methinks the dawn of a different project?

I'm severely disappointed with the result. He basically stood up on that stage and said "I'm about to change the world... WITH MY OWN REALITY SHOW! OHMIGOSH"
I mean, no disrespect to the guy, but I'm just a LITTLE underwhelmed.

I also set my expectations a bit (WAY TOO) high. I think it's a cool project but I don't see the way it could change the world drastically. Yeah, maybe this can prove that we can get organized and do something awesome together. I think that Dan will be in a year 10000000 times better than when the project started because only the good ideas will get to the top of the list and get executed, so he'll have an awesome life full of many great things from everybody, but even if this actually worked nothing wil change in the short-medium term... I'm not saying that I'm not excited to begin with this because it looks very promising

(We're talking waaaay above and beyond any form of wikipedia or google search) I had this thought a while back. I got the hint when he said he donated like $2000 to the Wikipedia foundation. I thought it was going to be more of a branch of Wikipedia, where people who had plentiful experience in a field could help those with little experience gain more knowledge on thier field of choice. EXAMPLE: You really want to learn programming, but you have a hard time learning from books (old technology anyway that needs to be done with), and your family cannot afford a tutor let alone college. This online site, filled with streamed videos from volunteers (possibly paid) that could assist you and teach you how to program and get more experience in the field. This would eliminate the need to take 15 classes in subjects which won't benefit your "major". imo experience > knowledge but you need knowledge to get experience. I thought this might speed up the process and give lower income families a better resource and a chance to get themselves to a higher socio-economic state. But hey, I'm still in college and didn't drop out. I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.
