AnnouncementOUR FIRST TASK IS ONLINE FOR VOTING! VOTE ON IT HERE!This coalition, which works on an unusual way, is a coalition which plans to promote philosophy in Dan Brown's life and of everyone surrounding him. This coalition was formed because philosophy is an important part of human rationality and life, and it is beneficial for anyone to learn it. So the goal is simple: - Think of good ideas which can teach and spread philosophy to Dan and/or others and vote up/promote any idea related to philosophy which you think is reasonable.
This coalition is an open coalition, you don't need to say you "want to join", nor vote on all proposals made by it. If you want to join simply participate in the discussions and pay attention to the ideas submitted by the coalition, voting up what you agree with (although we hope we can make this so you and anybody else agrees with most ideas and votes them up ). Who's with me?

This small reply in here will be edited whenever a someone finds a good idea to make and/or vote up. Important: Do not propose these ideas in Dan 3.0 engine right now, the ideas are still rough and not ready for proposal. Furthermore, it would be beneficial for everybody to see first how the entire system works. List of ideas to make in Dan 3.0:- Go to the brainstorm in here!
List of ideas to vote up in Dan 3.0:List of possibly good books:Basically you should warn this thread if you have an idea and/or if you submit it to the engine for Dan 3.0, so the rest can either submit it or vote it up.

Do I have to be a philosophy expert? I'm interested in it, and I want to learn as much as I can, but right now I'm just a beginner. I honestly know nothing. Can I still join?

I only know some things about philosophy too, I am far form an expert, I'm only a student. You can join. Actually, you don't need to, I'm not tracking "joins" and "leaves". Subscribe to this tread and help as you can if you're interested. And you can also join at the same time to other coalitions at your own will if you want too.

Well, I guess I'll join then! I read your wiki article last night, and it was truly fascinating. Your analogies and just the way you wrote it made philosophy much simpler and easier to understand. Thanks for helping me understand.

Thanks for helping me understand. Thanks It was ripped off of my book and is incredibly incomplete. Actually, one thing I'll try to do this summer is to complete the introductions into it and try to transform the project into a community one. Lets hope that way the lessons get finished xD

So, how do you think Dan and the PogoTribe at large could go about promoting philosophy?

I guess this is a good idea, but maybe a little difficult to acomplish. Perhaps some concrete ideas about spreading / promoting philosophy would help...

This sounds like a good idea. I've been reading about a bunch of philosiphies on wikipedia, it's all very interesting. I don't really know how this would work though other than to make him read essays/books on philosophies, and sum them up on youtube or make him come up with his own. The last one would be impossible to do though since he'd have like a month to do it.

Should we put something in our signatures to show that we are a member of this coalition/promote the coalition?

The last one would be impossible to do though since he'd have like a month to do it. I think you're a little confused, there are no "philosophies" only philosophical theories, philosophy is actually a lot like science... only... different. If you haven't never truly learned what philosophy is then this pogowiki article (which is incredibly unfinished) might give you a more accurate idea of what it truly is. Even if you don't know exactly what is philosophy or don't know a lot about philosophy, join in, we might try and get a way of teaching philosophy to other members. Should we put something in our signatures to show that we are a member of this coalition/promote the coalition? I'm not forcing you to anything, but it would be beneficial to the thread if you did it. So, if you want, I'd be very happy, but if you don't, I wont get angry nor anything like that. ________________________________________ About ideas to promote philosophy, I think we should start by having ideas on how to make Dan Brown learn philosophy. This mostly involves 2 options: - Get into a philosophy course during his free time
The first idea would probably give the best results, as a full time teacher with good teaching capabilities would help Dan understand the subjects the most. The problems are a few. First, I'm not sure if there are such philosophy courses. And second, if there are, we don't know if they are for absolute beginners or for somewhat experienced students already. - Read an introductory book about philosophy
This has the advantage of making Dan spend less money, as a book is usually cheaper than lessons. It also gives more control to him and us, as certain people might know of good introductory philosophy books. On the downside, Dan might not fully understand the theories unless the book has some way to make Dan practice it. It also has the problem of making it hard for Dan to discuss subjects in a philosophical way, thus causing problems with the practice part. At last, it also has the problem that, if Dan has a doubt, nobody is available to help him solve it. These are just 2 ideas, if you have more, or ways to solve the problems, reply in this thread.

I wonder if there are any philosophy clubs or coalitions that Dan could join. Most (whether they're online or not) are free or have very minimal membership costs. He would both be learning philosophy from people who know about it and have a support group for if he needed help wrapping his head around a certain theory or idea.

On a side note, if anybody knows of good books, good philosophy related online communities, good philosophy related communities near Lincoln Nebraska, or good absolute beginner philosophy courses near Lincoln Nebraska, please inform us so we can improve the ideas and provide a good amount of philosophy related resources.

Amazing, you're more than welcome to join in. But to everybody, remember, there is no need for credentials or proof when joining, this is an open coalition, if you knew at least something about philosophy it would be nice, but you can join anyway if you don't know.

I think this is a great idea, but as I assume he would have lots of things to do while the project is going on, I would think that the idea about him taking courses wouldn't be the best. But reading one or more books on philosophy would be a very good monthly goal.

I think this is a great idea, but as I assume he would have lots of things to do while the project is going on, I would think that the idea about him taking courses wouldn't be the best. But reading one or more books on philosophy would be a very good monthly goal. "Reducing the priority" of this project due to the potential of existing other time consuming projects is sort of "discriminatory" unless you have good reasons to prioritize other projects or ideas. I actually think that the learning of philosophy is far more important than perhaps many of the daily and some of the monthly goals as it will act as a great base for Dan to do other more creative projects. Anyway, one solution would be to provide Dan Brown the freedom to choose how to learn philosophy, pointing out to courses, books and communities where he could learn and let him choose one way, according to his own priorities and preferences. That way, the right way to do the suggestion would be to say "Learn philosophy trough online communities, books and/or courses, choosing which method you think is better..." and perhaps even add "...and report what you've learned to the community in a weekly basis.".

We now have a Wiki page! ^_^ It's just a start, so maybe someone with more wiki skills could edit it into something a bit more informative.
