Wouldn't it be cool if we had a landing page? Like, when you visit southpoleofthemoon.com/ for the first time, you get a page that explains a little bit about what we do here (projects, debates, games, etc.). Then you could like, set it to not show up every time you visit. This could help with new members, especially if we do get Dan to promote us or get other people from other projects. So, is this doable?

Of course this can be done, a simple webpage made in Dreamweaver with some hyperlinks on it uploaded to the hosting space with the name of index.htm or default.htm.

Or you could actually write the code yourself Which is easy enough... you guys should focus on designing the page (content, style...) for now.

I'm designing it... with HTML and CSS I'm making it mostly so it fits with the forum's style, while making some things cool. What I'll include in this semi-functional mockup is the announcements section on the front page, together with some resume of ourselves (actually lorem ipsum text, but that can easily be replaced) and a list of the 10 last updated thread on the projects section. I suppose these are easy to implement (with the exception of the last option, which can easily be replaced with a manually updated list of the most active projects).

I'm glad to say I finished it! It's (very) far from perfect, but it has a clean code, a somewhat decent (even if slightly empty for the moment) design and can easily receive a mobile stylesheet. It works perfectly in Firefox, Opera and Chrome, has no rounded corners in IE8, and works acceptably in IE 7. My limited testing in IE 6 is scary tough.

Ups, it accidentally didn't attach the file on the last attempt. Try it and say what you think. Attachments:

I think the best solution would be to simply bookmark the forum mainpage and use that instead of the homepage. This simply because each would serve a different purpose. For example, an idea I just had, most announcements could appear as news under the info about the tribe (although that would require a blogging platform like wordpress). The potential for a page like this is big, and should not simply be a single purpose "welcome page for n00bs".
Of course, if this remain a single purpose welcome page for new users, then a checkbox could be made, using a cookie and php to redirect the user to the front page of the forums. But I stick with my opinion that bookmarking the forum's front page is enough in this case.

I dont think its that big of a deal if its scary in IE6. If someone is using that, I don't think they should live...

Well there could be two pages then. One for noobs, which is just an about us and FAQ page, and then one with updates and current projects and pogotoks and such. They could both be added to the navigation bar at the top. But it's fine to just have that one page for nao, it looks good btw.

Here is an updated attempt, which adds more information on the forums. The idea is that below the small snippet of text about the pogotribe, all recent updates, from all mediums are shown, from Dan 3.0, from the admins, and anything more you might want to add. On the bottom of the page, the latest threads on the debate club and forum games are shown (although these could be from any other forum, I chose those randomly) and from the twitter page, showing any useful information a person might want. I'm not posting a screenshot because above the fold it is almost identical. Download the page and test it yourselves (I did not test in IE of any version, so if you want to test it there...). Remember it is just a mockup tough. Regarding having one or more pages, I think having just one entrance page is enough, with a little snippet of text and a link to another more detailed page, if it is necessary (perhaps even showing Dan's first videos about the tribe). I think the best place for such an informative page would be on the wiki, and not as a main page. On the mockup I added one link and a navigation item saying "FAQ". This item is what I talk about on the above paragraph, a wiki page with all necessary info. It doesn't necessarily need to be or be called a FAQ, but something, not necessary for the main page, which talks about us more deeply only for who is genuinely interested. Attachments:

Awesome sauce. Could you try uploading it to a Dropbox? like this, so we don't have to download it.
