It's not a choice. Think about it, with all the crap gay people go through regularly, why wouldn't everyone choose to be straight? Just sayin. Think about what an alcoholic goes through. Look at what a drug addict goes through. They have a choice, as do gays. *waits for flame* Devil's advocate or troll in the dungeon?

Umm... Just a person speaking his mind

Hmm.. I disagree. There is a fine line between casual drinker/doser and addict.
At some point it doesn't become a choice anymore.
Therefore.. Your argument is actually invalid.

Right, but it was a choice at one point. They weren't born an alcoholic

It depends. You could have had alcohol forced on you somehow in the beginning.
But this isn't the point of the discussion.

How isn't it?

It's about people being gay or not, not about alcoholism. They might seem like they're related, but one is a preference, and the other one is an addiction.

See, that's where our minds differ.

In your opinion, what is that makes them similar?
I don't see anything apart from society's disapproval/rejection of them.

They're both a life style choice

I can give you alcoholism, but sexual orientation is another thing. Born that way or not, it's not a choice -- period. That is an established fact. And, as an LGBT individual, I can say this with absolute certainty.

Established by whom?

I have no way of proving this to you, but knowing gay people IRL has shown me that it isn't a choice.
I even doubt it a bit, but there is no way of proving it myself.

Then... You can't say it's a fact. I respect your opinion, but it's not a fact

Sorry for the confusion. I was quoting.
It's an opinion, but I think it has basis, although it can't be proved.

Being gay is not a choice. One that argues otherwise would have to ask themselves if they choose to be straight. If it is a choice (or a preference as some choose to call it) then any one of us can just turn gay if they want to.
