Hey community! ;D What I was wondering about is, how is your feelings to wards the less fortunate?, and by that I mean people who make bad decisions. I'm from Norway, and I see some bad things in the streets when I'm walking around in the city. I see beggers Whores (mostly at night) I see drug addicts I see bums (or however its spelled) Well. Personally I can't stand those people! Yes I have a selfish mind I know, but I really want to see if my people perspective seems somewhat right.
When I see people begging, I usually think "omg! gtfo the streets, and get a job! it ain't THAT hard in Norway!"
Off course its different in other places, but I'm speaking on behalf of Norwegian standards.
When I see whores i usually think: "Why sell your body? theres other, better job opportunities, besides, you look pathetic standing there, close to begging people!"
Drug addicts: "Fine! you made the wrong choice, and if you quit now, your life will be hell for the next month to year! but it will be SO much better after wards! so just quit alright!"
Bums: Pretty much the same as beggers, i guess it falls under the same category.
Am i a bad person for thinking that every human being can do fine on their own, can get a good future if you try hard enough! There is no failing, theres only giving up!
Thats pretty much what I mean with this threat, I HATE people giving up! I hate the so much!
Soooo.... what do you guys think?

Beggars and Bums and Hookers are disgusting and shouldn't be allowed to mix with us proper folk. Thats my opinion anyway. They lie, cheat and steal to feed their drug habits and thats all that its for. The reason I feel so strongly about this is because the other day in my town centre there was a guy who looked homeless and was begging for money. When me and my friend walked back past him later on in the day he was talking in his cell phone to someone saying that he would be back home soon. He also had a ferret which I thought was very cruel considering the man looked like he smelt pretty rancid.
BUT
On the flip side there are people out there who are genuinely in trouble and they have no where to go, no money what so ever and no food. The only option they have is to be out there trying to survive in this world. Lets face it its either that or death.
Do you think thats giving up? I would have though Death with be the give up.
There are so many ins and outs to a topic like this. Everyone's situation is different and I do feel for the people who are truely in trouble and have no where to go. But when they are on the streets doing nothing and only being there to get money for drugs. There is clearly something messed up in these peoples heads that really nark me off.

Do you think thats giving up? I would have though Death with be the give up. Well, Begging, prostitution and drugs are definately not the right way to go! If something, it could be street performing just to start earn some money. Now, that isnt begging, its entertaining for money. I love street performers, because they aqually earn the money

Yeah I agree. They should at least try and earn the money like everyone else does.
But i'm sure if they all done that the world would be an exciting place lolz.

I guess you don't understand their situation.
Each individual person out there (and yes, they are people before anything else), has a story to tell. Trust me, nobody wants to be in those situations.
Just don't judge a person without walking a mile in their shoes. I found your posts to be extremely insensitive.

I read the responses, and frankly, my response was D:
Drug addicts are humans. People who genuinely need help. No matter what way you look at it, if they end up on the streets, they do not feed their habit for any sort of personal gain.
The homeless can't just 'get off the streets'. If you have no home, you can't get a job, no job, no money for accommodation. Beggars, in dublin at least, are almost always trying to scrape €10 to afford a hostel for the night. Not all homeless are drug addicts.
These people are not on the streets because they 'gave up'. There are serious reasons for them to be out of a home, or job. Next time you see a homeless person, ask them their story. I dare you. You might just open your mind and give a thought more than 'gtfo the streets'. I could give a more detailed response to each of these, but I really don't have the time.

True.
There are some people out there who do not want help or change and they lay about the streets shouting at people for money and if you dont give them money they intimidate you by shouting. Then they get in fights with eachother which can be really scary for people who are walking by.

Yeah but thats all I can see so its the only thing I have to base my opinion on. As I said in an earlier post, there are so many things you dont know about them. I'm sure its terrible being on the streets and having nothing.

There is nothing wrong with beggars, showing a little compassion to the less fortunate isn't that hard. This of course depends on the individual, but most beggars need either a leg-up to get back on their feet or a little money to live. I know a few beggars around my town, I will say they are thoroughly nice people. I have had a talk with some, discussed their feelings.
My attitude: If you see somebody in need of help, you help them.

There is a very famous quote by Martin Niemoller that might help put perspective on things.
The point is, you don't know everyone's story - you haven't lived it. But one day when you find yourself in need of doing something that at one point in your life you would have been disgusted by, wouldn't you want the help? What if for some bad reason, you make the wrong choice and you end up on the streets? Would you not want someone who is more privileged than you to help you and not look down on you with absolute hatred?

One of the greatest men I've known in my life died on the streets on Tulsa Oklahoma, he was homeless and he begged for money because he wasn't allowed to work, he immigrated from mexico when he was very young (Like toddler age) and his mother had no birth certificate, he had no social, and he had no legal citizenship, he couldn't get a job, a home, he couldn't even get hotel rooms because he had no way to get an ID.
His name was John Morales and he said several things I'll never forget in the 4 hours I talked to him, but the one I want to say here is this:
"Never Assume, it's one the best lessons in life, if you assume your right, then you could be wrong, if you assume someone is gonna be wrong, they could prove to be right, if you assume you already know something then you may find out otherwise, but if you ask, if you make sure, if you collaborate and pass information then you always come out ahead, That's the thing that makes humans more than animals, it's not our brains or our thumbs, it's our ability to communicate"
I think a lot of things said in the early part of this thread are cruel, but I also think that those who are less fortunate aren't meant to be pitied, to be looked down upon in any way, just understand that they have things that need to be said like everyone does, they just have no one to say it too

i have encountered people who believed many things about the street-folk. heres my take. a whore is a whore by necessity not choice. a beggar is a beggar because of necessity not choice. a bum is a bum because life dealt him a terrible hand. drug addicts are usually drug addicts because their situation was also way less than optimal. pertaining to all of these...sometimes it is the result of bad choices on the part of the persons themselves.
my feeling towards all of these people are the same. they all need help. sweeping to the side and spitting on them will never solve the problems caused by them, or the problems that caused them to be the way they are. whether they are the way they are because life dealt them a harsh hand, or they just screwed things up for themselves, everyone deserves as much help as we can give them. show the whore some love (no i dont mean sex), give the beggar some food, and money, clothes, but more than that. show him you care. dont give charity because you have to. give charity because you want to. as for bums, talk to them. have a conversation with them if you can. learn their story. try and help them. drug addicts. help them as well. hear their story. try and get them to quit the habit. encourage them. show them you care. most if not all take those drugs to escape this cruel world of ours. show them that the world is not so cruel, show them that the world is not something to run away from, and they will stop taking drugs. casting these people to the side does not help anyone. it does not help you, and it certainly does not help them.
as for people who have made bad choices, get them back on their feet. in all likelihood, they have learned from their mistakes and are now ready to move on. all they need is someone to help them back to their feet.
as a group of people committed to helping people and changing our world for the better, i am frankly shocked and appalled by some of the responses in this thread. they strike me as a very elitist point of view, and i find that disgusting.

I would like you to come to my town and talk to a homeless person. They would probably stab you or grunt at you. Look I'm not saying that they are all disgusting and horrible but some people don't want to be helped and are really not trying to help themselves.

Why should I not try, I would rather try and help than sit back on the idea that they will try and mug me.

I always wondered why these people never go to homeless shelters. Them begging and selling out their bodies is disgraceful, but sometimes that's the only thing they can do. I agree that everyone has a story, but you still have to be careful with these people. They are human, but we are all capable of doing crazy SHIRT when we are in desperate need.

kingcookie, first of all, say prostitute instead of whore, and homeless instead of bum please. I also found your post to be insensitive, because I betcha you have no idea how hard it is to quit taking illegal substances, and most prostitutes are forced to sell their body, and most homeless people probably are not even able to get a job. If you took something like meth, you wouldn't be thinking of how bad it is for you, but how good it makes you feel and how your going to get more money for more. sorry for any grammatical errors
