Democrats and Republicans are part of two (huge) different political parties. Despite them being different it doesn't mean one could generalize.

K, guys. Just know that the difference between democrats and republicans is not big government and small government. The political spectrum looks more like this: You have left and right, and then you have libertarians and authoritarians. Being a democrat or republican doesn't really have that much to do with whether you are a left wing or right wing, but most left wingers are democrat, and most right wingers are republicans. Left wingers more or less aim for a society where everyone is equal. They may do this by means of communism or socialism, but the goal is clear; take from the rich, give to the poor, and even out the scales a little bit. Right Wingers more or less aim for Neoliberalism, which is basically economic liberalism. Broadly speaking, right wingers seek to transfer control of the economy from public to the private sector, under the belief that it will produce a more efficient government and improve the economic health of the nation. Libertarians are the ones who generally believe in a small government, and even have a flavor for anarchism. They are focused on the liberty of people. Authoritarians are the ones who generally believe in a big government. Authoritarians believe that the government should possess exclusive, unaccountable, and arbitrary power. Authoritarians are opposed to individualism and democracy. Fun Fact! I'm an Egalitarian Libertarian, which means I'm basically a left wing libertarian. I believe in a small government, individual liberty, everyone should be equal, and I am generally anti-property. Fun Fact! Adolf Hitler was a Right Wing Authoritarian... So is George Bush .

Right, well the post above me is talking about a different party, mostly.
BUT the democratic and republican parties were BASED ON the ideas of big government, and small government, respectively.

I'm a Christian and I'm Independent. I think both sides are ridiculous, and now that I'm old enough to vote, I'll vote for whomever I believe has a better plan. The past few elections have happened to be Democrat solely because my mother is a Democrat, and my father has Democratic tendencies. Didn't do any research because I didn't think it was necessary. Silly past me.
Anyway, I personally just go by what the New Testament says we should do. /shrug

Fun Fact! Adolf Hitler was a Right Wing Authoritarian... So is George Bush . So are most of the current European politicians. Undermining all right wing authoritarians due to Hitlers and Bush's actions is silly.
