Okay, double post, but I've been working for a few hours now, and the engine for the Text Based Adventure is off to a really good start. Now all it needs is a storyline to be put in its place! Remember, anyone and everyone can contribute. Furthermore, I thought I'd outline some of the features that are going to be implemented, and are already implemented: Already Implemented: - Saving and Loading
- Inventory
- Movement Controles
Going to be implemented/Under development: - GUI in order to produce a more classical TBA look
- Battling monsters/bosses (which means HP etc. is to be implemented)
- A menu system.
- Experience system. (including leveling up)
- Weapons
- More advanced Inventory System.
The inventory system is currently rather basic but works well and is easy to save. It works in a binary way, because if item 1 is assigned a value of 1, item 2 is assigned a value of 2, item 3 assigned a value of 4 (i.e. the value doubles with each item) then there can only be one possible way of getting the number 5, by having item 1 and 3, etc. It also works for all the way up to an infinite amount of items.

I'm in my 3rd year of Software Engineering. I've had some Java experience, I'm a bit of a noob but I work hard. I'd love to test. What can I do?

As soon as there is a decent and simple storyline, then you can be one of the people who get to test it first, because of your experience. So yeah, if you could test then that'd be great!

high level weapon - RUBIKS cube (on a stick) - the damage shows up in the same colors
Storyline- Pick different starting places for intro (USA, Canada, Sweeden, UK, etc) for starting zones to introduce play and give a little variance (and possible different cultural things as well for later development). Starting zone ends with a rocket to SPOTM. Here merged storyline can begin.
Main or side quests to handle. Find out what Dan's SSP (which will be known by then). Stop the evil Zak and his lover Click from derailing the project. Help Dan by saving Danielle from the jealous Bree. While getting help from Zang who, because he is now 13, knows what "this" is.
.... and bombmaniac blows something up
.... and nick is no help cause he is just a grumpy old man who complains
something to start with anyway. Of course you might wanna ask everyone first hehe. Although Zang's fanfic covers a lot of this :-)

And with one swift strike, Nick Greyden is automatically the winner of everything ever invented. All noted. Thank you VERY much!
EDIT: Also, the Rubik's Cube on a stick, the different colours thing might not be possible.

Update. This video shows the first version of the SPOTMTBA engine. The storyline is not important at this moment in time, so it's currently just about a monkey who had his birthday but nobody gave him a present, so he's sad etc. Anyway, comments etc. on the whole feel of the thing. It's something I coded in a few hours, give me a break if its got problems.

Holy crap, this is cool!! At first I was really confused, and didn't understand what it was (I found it originally via your signature). But when I saw your video of you playing through some of it, that really cleared things up. And it is AWESOME!! Keep going with this, and great job!

Well thank you! Also, guys, I decided that to make sure that updates happen frequently, every Wednesday I'd make an update video with all the suggestions people have made so far, and who made them! That way more people have a better idea of what is going to be in the game!

I might have missed this already, but how can we access the game once it's finished? Will you simply post a link to download it in the thread or something?

It reminds me of those books you read and choose your own path for, specifically the Goosebumps ones, because those were the only ones I ever read. xD Except this is a lot more impressive because it's extra interactive with inventory and levels and all that stuff.

Anyway, as soon as I figure out an effective way of distributing the downloads, it'll just be in one easy to use .jar file, that is if I can get it to run properly, because I've had problems with .jar files in the past....

Bump again. I love bumping, it's so much fun kinda. Anyway, enjoy:
Simplistic Battle System implemented. It's basically works out, when you attack, your attack value divided by opponents defense value, multiplied by a number between 4 and 7. And the same for your opponent, and when it goes below 0 the end of the battle. Anyway, comments, criticisms, go ahead. The experience system is on it's way.
