I think the Wikipedia Education has potential but it would be most effective as supplementary material to the traditional university education. I think the traditional universities just offer too much and are too well established for them to ever be replaced completely by the Wikipedia Education, and even if they were replaced I don't think that would be a good thing. Going forward I think it will be important to integrate them together for the most effective education possible.

I think that it was wrong of Dan to drop out of school. I mean, this super secret project must be a HUGE deal to have him set (financially) for life because hes gonna have a heck of a time finding a job in this world without an education. I really feel for him because i dont think hes gonna be able to get a job. Oh well. I guess he knows what hes doing, its his life. there must be more going on that we dont know about.

ItsCarterYoI'm going to have to disagree with you there, at this point in time, education is no where NEAR as important as experiance is, employer want to hire people that they don't have to train, don't have to get used to a system, they want people who hope into a working atmosphere alreadying knowing exactly what their doing. and for the obvious 'That's what education is Dimstow, education teaches you how to do your job', that's not true, education gives (should give, correction) you a knowledge base to function in jobs, it doesn't gives you the skills for the specific job you're hired for, and those specific situational skills are what people are hiring for

And you aren't going to land an entry-level job in that field (at least for most white-collar jobs) if you don't have a college degree.

1. Dan has stated many many many many times his is a special case. 2. Yes I think he was looking for justification for dropping out. 3. I don't think he had a positive college experience from the beginning, which is truly sad. 4. The current university education process does what it is suppose to do. You are not exiting with a degree knowing all you need to know about a field. Instead, you are given the tools (education) needed to go into a field and learn how to do things in this way or that without an apprenticeships. 5. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFeiiPdTibE pretty much hits the nail on the head of what I was trying to come up with, but couldn't quite nail it down in a way that made sense. 6. A saying I've heard many times before is "Effect the change you want to see" While a tall order, it does make a point, especailly to one "in power" such as Mr. Brown. I use the term "in power" because he does have a loyal following which he could use to effect change. His advice to email teachers etc was a step in the right direction. Posting the video and getting people to think was another. However, has not provided a direction. Maybe he has done all he can do. Maybe he is too busy to do so. However, I will say this. It is his choice and no one elses. He does not have to justify himself to me, you, or anyone else. If he can sleep at night, knowing he's done the right thing, that is truly all that matters. To quote Dennis Miller, "...that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."
