I've been playing clarinet for 8 years (since 4th grade). I love that it's so versatile, but the highest notes (D and up) can sound bad enough to be a form of noise pollution (if it's not being played by the right person). I'm not planning to be a music major or anything, but I hope to continue playing long after I've left school.

I play the French horn. Until I joined band I had no idea what a French horn was. I now know that it is a large circle that has 4 keys and the smallest mouthpiece I've evar seen. In other words everytime I see it my mouth hurts. I've been playing for the past 2 years and I will be playing again next year. I don't know why but something about it makes me continue playing. This summer I'm also taking up guitar because apparently the t.v.remote didn't give my fingers a big enough work out. That's it for now

Cool. I also play the French horn. I've been playing since grade 9 (10 years), though I'm only about as good as I was in grade 12. It's nice playing in the Vancouver Concert Band as a hobby, since it's quite different from my day job researching quantum computers. For several years, I've been working on the Gliere horn concerto, though I think I'd need to practise way more to perform it, 'cause it's brutal. Here's a video of someone much better than me playing the 3rd mov't. The part around 3:40 sounds easy, but it's got almost nowhere to breathe for a really long stretch, and the triplet runs after just after 4:30 are crazy. I can do them at about 1/2 speed. I'm not too terrible at the ending anymore, now that I've spent years practising double and triple-tonguing. ;D

Well since I've only played for two years I'm not all that great. I got first division in the solo and ensemble competition playing the hunt as my solo and the prince of denmarks march with my friend and my teacher. I'm trying to get them to teach me to double tongue but right now the music just doesn't go fast enough for it to be required. I'm assuming that I'm supposed to be really good because my school has the 6th best band in all of Texas and I'm first chair French horn about to be in top band. Right now I'm working on some of next years music like the mission impossible theme song and build me up buttercup.

I began playing clarinet in sixth grade and continued through freshman year of high school. This year, however, because I wasn't 'distinguishing' myself (the words of my band director) they switched me first to tuba (because we needed a tuba player and I was willing to fill whatever positions needed) and then to contrabass clarinet (which is about a foot taller than I am). I love playing the bass part and it's really flattering to have people come up to me after a concert, even if it's just to ask what the heck my instrument is.

I have also been playing the trombone for 6 years and have been in symphonic band, jazz band, marching band, pepband, and a couple city bands. This year i tried out for the combo band (plays for the showchoir) and made it. I'm also gonna try out for the pit orchestra and jazz band again.

I've played guitar for 18 years. What can I say, it's awesome. Although I played clarinet in high school band. (...Which is where I met my wife ;D)

I play Electric and Upright bass (although the latter not all that well) and I play a bit of Trombone (again, not all that well)
Side note: we need Jazz Tuba.
