Hey guys! Dan opened this discussion a while ago, but I know a thread with a million pages can be daunting. So, I'm starting the discussion all over again (retaining what we talked about in the previous thread). So far, there are six main causes we are discussing: *Ending World Suck *Universal Equality *Universal Happiness *Open Global Communication *Open Knowledge to Everyone, Everywhere *Global Peaceful Coexistence If you want to learn more about these on the wiki, click here. Of course, these six cause ideas are not the only possibilities. If you have something new to add, feel free to post it! So yes. DISCUSS.

I still think Universal Happiness is the best one. Think about it, yes happiness is different for everyone, but compromise can be made in order for everyone to achieve an acceptable level of happiness. The point is that any of the other suggestions wouldn't matter if nobody or only a few were happy... and this is supposed to be the goal that eventually means the end of the pogotribe...

Are we really ready for this? I'm not convinced that we are.

The idea of a noble cause makes me sad... Once we achieve our noble cause, we disband. I don't want that Also, I think this is difficult because normally a tribe is centered around the noble cause from the beginning, so everyone entering that tribe knows exactly why they're there and they all have the same goal. Here, we all joined for different reasons and have different goals. It's going to be hard to find a goal that all/most people can agree on at this point.

BTW if we "choose" a Noble Cause will this be permantly/unchangeable.. We say we want to achieve x and only x and when x is achieved we are done?
Because I reckon we can't form one right one since we only just got together in terms of speaking..
We could already form a changeable one right one and "update" it through the process.. and then after a year PogoTribe we might be able to form a solid one, I guess??
Or are we too pessimistic right now?

Well as I said in the TOK, deciding on this cause can take as long as you want. The reason it is open so early is so that you have plenty of time to discuss.
There's no rush.

I really dissagree with "universal happiness" because I say now that it is impossible. I say we should make steps, as in: do small thing->little bigger thing-> etc. Ending in universal happiness. You can't do one thing to make universal happiness. I say we make little causes, and try to accheive. Small steps would be something like "make a charity" and medium would be "get list of morals approved by un" and large "end world hunger" and all of thus plus many more would mean universal happiness. People being hungry will need to be ended for universal happiness.

I think I said this before, but here's my views on Universal Happiness:
There's a guy. Let's call him Enkidu. Enkidu likes to kill cute little old people. Killing cute little old people makes Enkidu happy. Now, Enkidu killed your grandmother. That would make you and your entire family very sad. Now, Enkidu got caught. Enkidu was sent to jail. This made Enkidu very sad. So, now your grandmother's family is sad, Enkidu is sad, and Enkidu's family is sad because Enkidu is in jail. Because Enkidu is sad, he escapes out of jail. This made the jail employees unhappy because they failed to do their jobs. Enkidu isn't that happy because he now has to run from the law. Enkidu's family isn't happy because their little Enkidu is appearing all the time on the news. Your family isn't happy because the man that killed Grandma Muriel is on the loose. In order to successfully stay out of jail, Enkidu kept killing people so they wouldn't rat him out. Enkidu killed 20 people. He finally got caught and was sentenced to death. Now, you're family is sad, the federal government is unhappy because they let that happen, Enkidu's family is sad because Enkidu's dead, the families and friends of all the people Enkidu killed are unhappy, and everyone is scared because the federal government wasn't able to catch Enkidu.
All of that happened because of one man's attempt to be happy. If everyone in the world was able to be completely happy for an hour without repercussion, the world would be thrown into a year of despair.

She is going to die soon anyway. Why not end her suffering and allow said Enkidu to kill her in a way he sees fit? I don't see the difference between her dying slowly of old age and Enkidu slitting her throat. Old people are evil creatures, anyway. Think about it. Think about the money we would save keeping these old people alive. Would you let an old person die to feed a starving child? Think about the money we could use.

Replace "grandmother" with "toddler sibling" and John's point is still the same.

John, that explanation was superfluous. Just kidding. I love you in a totally creepy way And "universal happiness" just isn't quantifiable and we would have no way of measuring whether or not we succeeded.

Replace "grandmother" with "toddler sibling" and John's point is still the same. indeed and 7's point is completely irrelevant and actually quite offensive. My idea for Noble Cause: setting up a world wide network via the internet. This network would have a base in every country and their goal would be to provide the people with correct information on what's happening in the world, on what governments and businesses say they do and what they actually do. Clear up doubts, misunderstandings and prejudices. All the while being unbiased by non-logical influences such as religion and ethnicity (or at least being as un-biased as possible) Basically a well organised version of "Wikileaks", but with people all over the world. I think this would decrease worldsuck immensely.

I seriously hope you're trolling. If someone killed your grandmother, would you think, "Ah, she's old and evil, who cares?"

really ? we have to choose? why not all? yes, it would be more of a challenge, but HECK id be up to it, i mean we could focus on one, then another, then another and make a bit of a pattern or just all at once. i dont wanna choose. theyre all pretty good. or we could choose at least more than one.

...? I'm making a point. An insane person has a strange obsession with killing cute little old people. It makes him happy. Fine, I'll re-word it.
There's a guy. Let's call him Enkidu. Enkidu likes to kill cute little old people. Killing cute little old people makes Enkidu happy. Now, Enkidu killed your grandmother. You really couldn't read the rest because of three words?

This might sound stupid, but I'm thinking rather than 'Universal Happiness' we should try to stick to something a little bit more realistic, and less controversial (^). Maybe something like 'Universal Smiles'. It's still kind of like happiness, since a smile represents pleasant or being happy. Just trying to rephrase and add something the the conversation.

Think impossibly big. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqipgekd47QEven if it were to take decades, wouldn't it still be better if our Noble Cause is something amazing, rather than just a little change?

I'm not saying we shouldn't try to make the world more pleasant, but it's impossible to make everyone happy.
And also, I'm confused as to what the admins mean by "Not too general, yet not too specific" Can you give me an example?
