Fantastic! And even outside of the future iPhone application, having a blog with pogotribe news may come in handy! Well done for starting it up, Fred.
Also, my friend who is making the app would like to get started as quick as possible, but also needs to know exactly what we want from him. Not just in terms of wanting to get updates from twitter, dailybooth, etc. But also deeper things, like would it just be Dan Brown's twitter? And would we want everything in one large "news feed" in the app or a seperate section for each site. My friend just needs a briefing before he can start!

Here's a list of the features I mean we would need (in detail): * A main feed with a collection of the newest blog updates and user updates, with the top item always being the latest blog post. * A feed with the 10 latest posts from the blog, with a buttom at the bottom where you could press it to get ten more, and again to get ten more, and so on. * An update feed that show all updates from Dailybooth, Twitter and Facebook. I think we cannot make this feature yet, because it would require a user database with their Dailybooth, Twitter and Facebook users, and the users themselves would have to approve a Facebook app for it to show their Facebook updates. * Dan Brown should be among these users, but I don't think he should be prioritized in any way. * The ability to filter out updates from only certain sources (Twitter, Facebook, Dailybooth) or users (where Dan Brown should be at the top, because of his popularity) * User lists should be able to update from a file that could be later changed to add new users. (Maybe not yet, but later). * Wiki implementation. This shouldn't be so hard using the MediaWiki API, so that you can read (and possibly edit) the wiki on the go. * An about page, that tells a little bit about the tribe and who made the app (we have to give credit to the developer) and so on. These are just what I think it would need, any changes should be made if you think something shouldn't be like that. I think some features shouldn't be rushed, like user updates, although the other features shouldn't be that much of a problem at this time. Links: * Blog RSS feed: pogotribe.wordpress.com/feed/ * Wiki API: southpoleofthemoon.com/wiki/api.php (that's both the documentation and the API itself)

Here is what my friend had to say in response to you, Fred:
So anyone/everyone needs to answer these 7 questions so that he may start the app.

Here is what my friend had to say in response to you, Fred: So anyone/everyone needs to answer these 7 questions so that he may start the app. so I'm gonna answer the questions: 1) Twitter and Dailybooth should be fine 2) Oh, yeah, Webview should be enough, I guess. (Sorry, I just have a habit of being a bit advanced ) 3) I posted the link to the RSS feed, I may populate it with some posts if he wants to. 4) ehm...I can't draw *lacks creativity* 5) Agreed, Pogotribe would be fine, although I don't think it's written with a capital T... 6) ... *lacks even more creativity* 7) He could if he wants to send it through his own account, I don't really think it matters (maybe except for the "company name" in the app store, but at least I wouldn't care about it anyway). Just a side note, I don't think Dailybooth will work anyway, because they have no developer API, like Twitter and Facebook does.

Generally what the guy is saying is do-able by me, however maybe a few of the features requested may have to be a bit simplified by me... there just a bit out of my reach for what I can do with RSS feeds. Urrmmm, so ill have a go anyway.... but [the briefing you have given me] is still not enough for me to be able to make the app. First of all i have a few questions which must be answered before I can do any work on the app: 1) Who exactly is Dan Brown (and no, not the famous one) ...? I need to know exactly what they want me to put in the app about him, and any photos? Edit from Jake: I can tell him who Dan Brown is, but you can discuss the second part of that question. 2) Wiki - I take it, that this community have started their own Wiki and want access to be able to edit it. Instead of the Media Wiki API, I can just put a WebView which loads their webpage and gives the user access to their wiki. By using the MediaWiki API, they seem to want to use this particular API to upload new posts/etc??? Edit from Jake: I think he's basically asking if the API is required or if Webview will suffice3) Their blog - I need some feeds, even just test ones, to work around, as otherwise it will look bad on the screenshot [when I submit it to Apple], and this can sometimes mean rejection of the app by Apple, because there is barely any content the user can interact with on the screen. 4) iPhone App Icon - The app needs an icon and a 512-by-512 icon which MUST match the app icon for the iTunes icons. Basically two icon which are EXACTLY THE same, one small one for the iphone and one High quality big one for your iTUnes library. Apps can get rejected by Apple, if the icons are bad or do not match each other. 5) Company name - Each app has a ".plist" which is where the main app info is kept, do they have a specific name for their company/community? Or do they just want the developer's name in the company section of the .plist file. (Note: this is not the name that appears on the app store). Edit from Jake: Dont' worry about this one, I'll just tell him to make it be called "PogoTribe".6) App name - the app needs a name, what is it? 7) App Distribution - Will the app be put on the App Store using my own personal account or should I send it to them to distribute via their own developer account?. 1) You should put an 'about' section, explaining the Pogotribe and a bit about Dan. We probably could put one picture of dan, probably the one on his youtube channel (youtube.com/pogobat), but not many more, because then we'd be over featuring Dan, and this isn't the Dan Brown fan club. 2)I guess that would be fine. 3)Okay, you can go to feed://pogotribe.wordpress.com/feed/4)For the icon, I think we should have a picture of the moon with a sheep on the bottom (inside joke). 5)I think we should have it say Pogotribe. 6)I think we should just call it Pogotribe. 7)I'm fine with both.

This way the app won't have a constant load of updates from the forum - much of which wouldn't be vitally important news. This blog would then be put into the app so that only the most important information from the forum is reached. I've set up a blog for this purpose now, it's pogotribe.wordpress.com/Like, what I think we could do is to get maybe 5-8 editors that regularly update the blog with important stuff from the forum - like interesting threads and stuff. Anyone interested in becoming an editor could just PM me with their email address - any anyone else could then just PM one of those editors if they wanted to have something posted there. So, basically, what I'm saying is that the blog you're linking to isn't the kind of blog we were talking about, it's more of a "personal" blog in my opinion

But i'll change it to that if you want.

Okay, I've relayed all this information to my friend and he should be getting started with the app soon. Just keep going with the information and saying what we want - the information about it he knows, the better it will be!

So, this is what I'm imagining that the end result should be: Name: Pogotribe Icon: Moon with sheep - someone should make this!Price: FREE! Features:- Tabs at the bottom to navigate:
- Home (overview screen)
- Forum summary (feed items from RSS feed)
- Wiki (WebView)
- Pogotribians (activity on Twitter and Facebook, possibly combined with the Facebook App)
- Home screen with a combination of forum activity, recent wiki activity (using this RSS feed, possibly?) and pogotribian activity, where the top item always should be the latest "forum summary" item.
New idea:I'm working on a Facebook App for the Pogotribe, and if you want me to, I can (try to) make a feature that allows you to opt in for your Twitter and Facebook updates to be shown in the app. Then the app could synchronize with the list of these users and show all these users at the next startup.

Okay! Thank you for being so involved! I'll try and make the logo tomorrow and see what you think, which will be fun. And I'll also keep you posted on how my friend's going with the app.

Here's some screenshots of it so far: But this is just the first version which involves getting each feature working - he doesn't actually start the part where he makes it look all nice until later. That's why it looks kinda basic. What do you think? And any suggestions?
