I mark intelligence by academic success.

I mark intelligence by academic success. I strongly disagree with this. There are plenty of idiots with masters degrees! When the will is there, someone with an IQ of 75 can get a PhD. Now, go watch Good Will Hunting.

^ that Also, I found this web side: onemansblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/iqtest.swfIt is being promoted by a third party as one of the most accurate on the internet, its not trying to sell you anything and the score I got seems to be down to earth (108). You may want to look it up.

IQ has no application at all. It was a test developed in an attempt to weed out undesirable intelligence levels. Unfortunately it was soon discovered that in order to be accurate the IQ test would have needed to be taken by all children in the world by the age of 12. Not only that, but it was found that the "intelligence" measured by the IQ test was not genetic, and that two people with high IQ's were perfectly capable of having offspring with low IQ's and vice versa. This made the original purpose useless. The test however was further used to gauge the mental age of adults, and became popular during WWI.
Really - IQ is useless.
Nobody cares about your aptitude for thinking, they care about how you think and what you think about.

Err... it was actually developed as a way to ensure that children who needed extra help in the classroom got it. It was also used to measure a child's intellectual potential. And it's still used that way. Hardly useless. Just saying.

I question the veracity of some of these "I have epic IQ and I no in the smart thing" claims.
Unless you have some jacked up school, if you took an OFFICIAL IQ test with your school, and got a score that high, and weren't at least recommended for advanced things, then there's something fishy there.
I took an IQ test as a little kid and got like 139, and I was offered to skip the 2nd grade, and immediately placed in our school's ALPHA program for gifted students. These things also required a certain level of aptitude in the classroom (If you're clearly an idiot, then you're not gonna get in), but for the most part, that test got me on the fast track.

You may want to look it up. With the standard deviation set at 16 (what its usually set to), that site pegged my IQ at 122, but it uses a much more exacting scale. On that scale, 132 is Mensa level(genius). On that scale, 122 is the upper half of the "High" range. For the record, with a deviation of 15, its 120, and with a deviation of 24 its 133. EDIT: Take that test Ryan.

btw - average IQ in the US is not 100 but closer to 112. It has increased over the decades - very slowly.

has apparently been outdated - as with further investigation I have found that over the last 18 months our average IQ has decreased (unlike most developed countries) to 98. SourceSorry for that previous - unchecked post.

Haha bree, you're right an IQ of 98 isn't dumb
calling below average dumb however is a good way to stir up drama which is what the person who wrote that article was aiming at (saying slightly below average is much less melodramatic than saying dumb)
Ignore the comma splice, I haven't slept in 41 hours.

Mine's somewhere between 142 and 148. Home test gave me 148 but I can't remember the proper test. I gave myself the benefit of the doubt anyway and voted the higher option. As for the test, was an official mensa one so uh.. yeah.. ir smrt parently.
but yeah, iq is pretty useless.
