Okay, here's a breakdown of the process of selecting / electing moderators that we discussed in the admin call today. This is not at all final, it is just what we came up with. If you want to come up with something completely different, feel free. We also encourage small edits to our idea.
This does not at all mean we will be adding moderators anytime soon. We just want to make sure the process of choosing moderators is finalized and easy to do when we do decide to add mods.
Nominations
- Members will be nominated privately via a PM sent to Guinea Pig (an account that is accessible by all admins)
- Nominations must be seconded and thirded in order to count
- There is no limit to the number of nominations / seconds / thirds a member can make.
- A member may not nominate themselves
Campaigning
- Nominees may campaign for fun (making signatures, avatars, videos, etc... whatever they can think of)
----- There will be ONE main thread for campaigning, nominees may not make personal ones
----- Nominees may not mass private message other users
----- Nominees may not bribe other users into voting for them
----- Nominees may choose not to campaign
- It should be noted that, while campaigning can demonstrate someone's creative and fun side, it is not a reason to vote for any particular candidate. Votes should be based on who users believe would be responsible, fair, and abide by the rules of moderation. Again, campaigning is just for fun.
----- Instead of looking solely at a nominee's campaign, we encourage members to check out the posts of candidates and base their decisions off of their long-term behavior on the forum.
- Nominees will write a short blurb about themselves and why they think they should be elected as a moderator. We will post these in the final voting thread for everyone to read.
----- These blurbs should be sent via Twitter
Voting
- The poll will be closed so that no one (save Forum Staff) may see the results. (We don't want this to be a popularity contest.)
- The top 2/5/however many moderators are needed will be announced by the forum staff and become moderators for a trial period of two weeks.
----- This trial period is mostly a chance for the newly elected mods to get used to the new functions and familiarize themselves with the Moderation Handbook
Yuh, I'm pretty sure that's everything. Vagina.
