I have studied linguistics, teaching English as a second language, and English literature - including the structure of argument. As such, I would consider myself a strong writer and useful as a proof reader for something which might contain grammar or spelling errors.
I also know an awful lot about music appreciation and many things about many bands. If you were looking to get into a specific genre, or find more bands similar to the ones you already liked, I'd be a good person to chat to!

I am generally good at Sciences, particularly Chemistry and Physics (although, given the number of people who've already said that, they're probably better than me) I do a lot of music, particularly classical music and Sacred Song, and most things about singing (although singing lessons would be tricky over the internet...a Skype video-link mebbe?) I can also do Philosophy and Debating.

Hey Chelsea. Things are going along fine. We're just about to open another thread for people to ask to be tutored (as you can see, this is clearly a two-part project that required two different threads - one for tutors, one for people to be tutored). As mentioned in our first post on this thread, our goal was to get around 10-15 tutors (I'm fairly sure we've surpassed that goal already). Then for people being tutored, we hope to get about five to start off with (considering there's only about six days left for triad projects).
Does that sound fine?
Also, we're going to be sending out messages to the tutors explaining how we're going to proceed with the project (you'll be getting one as well, since you signed up to be a tutor).

i think this is a cool idea, and i'd like to sign up as a tutor
i'm well versed in basic calculus, and all math prerequisit to that. plus i'm pretty good with english and analysis/essay stuff. plus plus i'm not to shabby at german, and singing as long as i'm throwing stuff in there.. Plus! history. over arching themes, and semi specific subjects. not to good with tons of names and whatnot.. but deffinately for basic ideas
WHAT IF we actually had a directory of subjects, kind of like MIT has on their site, except under each course, along with bulleted points laying out ALL of the important aspects of the subject, ya kno, like for geometry the pythagorian theorem, the deffenitions of sine, cosine and tangent (in depth with different depictions and applications if the student wanted to see them). but along with the basic points of the subject, a list of available tribe member volunteers that you could talk to about stuff you're having any trouble understanding. IN THAT WAY we could expand the tutor idea to a Complete community-backed self-study.. awesome learny thingy.
after my AP calc exam this morning, me and my calc teacher were talking about the problems in the educational system and what not this morning, like stuff me and him think ought to be different (and then later i talked to senior jones who's room is next to my locker and he gave an interesting perspective, in that most people whos jobs a radical reformational change of the educational system would effect, are set in their paradimes or veiwpoints and wouldn't want to do anything in any other way that they didn't want. my calc teacher hit on this too, that some of the crusty old fart math professors scoffed at the idea of using calculators for math.) anyway, he asked me how i did, and i said that i'm practically certified to teach AP calculus now...
long story short: there's something wrong with our hundred year old educational system model, and we need something that makes everyone better more efficiently. what i realized from the triad idea is that there needs to be a common idea in a group before they can get anywhere, and for educational reform, admitting that there's a problem is that unifying idea.
now there's a bunch of theoretical ideas for educational reformation, but there's no concrete method, no easily implimental techniques for that change, and no evidence for spectacularly functioning educational systems outside the one we have.
this sort of learn what you want, everyone helps eachother out, learn from teaching, extremely flexible educational model; is just the sort of evidential proof of that we need to have in order to make some good changes. who better than the pogo tribe to kick start this. it's important though that like everything eles here that the model would grow more awesome with new ideas for how it should be
final note: would it be usefull to have a concise video series (one for each aspect of each subject, kind of like mini lectures) or would it be overwhelming? or to much more impersonal than tutalage? i think it might be best to throw tons of programs at the problem and see what works and see what people like to use for their own selves.. kinda like roosevelt and his New Deal.. oh, i'm not to shabby at historical analysis either.. i should add that
what would a person do for relativly quickly aquiring vocabulary for learning other languages? i hear that submersion is the best way to learn.. but i'm not sure.. i ought to ask my friend who's gunna work for the government as a translator....
ok ok final note. there's tons of stuff i want to discuss (mostly just to get new perspectives on) kind of like dan does monday and friday.. but i think maybe there needs to be a highlighted discussions channel for the pogotribe, one that gets similar publicity (and therefore, range of oppinions) that dans discussions get. i'm not a veteran of the moon or youtube, do the forums or casting blogs out into the internet/sea suffice?
Thanks for consideration! Tanner

Okay, guys. I'll add you to the directory on our other forum. Because I'm too lazy to use quotes, I'll be adressing each of you with your usernames and the little @ symbol: iamagnostic: Do you mean english as in language or the actual subject? Because if it's the subject, you may have to be a little more specific. Check the second forum for examples. tulae: TOO MANY WORDS @_@ Could you choose maybe two or three subjects out of the ones you mentioned and give specifics? (if you understand what I mean at all by that. Haha) It's easier for me to list in the directory.

iamagnostic rofl sauce, yeah you're probably right. i never understood why the whole formal structure thingy really matters as long as the idea gets across. and i mean it's not like english has always been set up the way that it is now.. @tiffany sorry bout that. the first little stanza was the entry for the directory, and the rest was mostly suggestions and related thoughts subjects i can teach: .fundimental calculus .(precalculus) .geometry .triginometry .algebra .literary analysis (essays) .elements of discussion ( not an actual course, but it needs to be.. speaking of which, we should be making up courses that we are think ought to be objects of learning and discussion. for that matter) .meeting new people / leaving positive impressions (is one i've pretty much figured out, since i can't think of any people i've ever met that don't like me.. no i'm serious) .fundimental german .singing .theory/role/benefits/(biological implications) of music .Tang soo do (korean karate, what chuck norris originally studied) .theory/role/benefits/(biological implications) of martial arts summary of suggestions = .... no. i think they were pretty good suggestions it would do them a disservice to summerize them. basic idea though = .there's serious probelms with the current first world educational system .you have to get people to aknowladge that there's a problem in order to get support .there's a lot of theories on how things should be done but no actual concrete tested practices for people to put in place .we need to make and test out a better educational system .why not turn the moontutor directory into a "learn what you want, from cool people who know about it" sort of self-propelled educational system. kinda like if you've seen the movie Accepted? except in real life. so that would mean subjects that are generally considered subjects would get taught about, plus other subjects somebody wants to learn about, or subjects somebody discovered and wants to teach about..then after we've started up and used this system, the evidence of how education should work will be gleaned from it, so that global education can be permenantly changed for the better, thanks to the little system we started up here on the moon. I think this is an enormous idea that needs to be persued. honestly, can we change the idea/goal for the moontutor project into this model? i don't mean to just encroach on your project idea, but this could be huge..

I'd love to help with this, though I don't know how much help I'd be. I'm pretty good in all subjects, though I think most people are a lot more qualified than I am. But if anyone needs help with AP World History, or just world history, I'm here.

Hey guys! I'll add you all to the directory tomorrow (I promise)! Oh, and tulae - I'll probably use your idea if I can understand it tomorrow (being tired from editing school video projects really turns your brain into mush. Haha). Although I do have to discuss it with the other triad members, but I don't think they'd mind
