I am a full-on vegetarian. I have been one since November. Are you?

Nope, I think you need iron to live. Plus I like meat, so I just try not to think about the animals I've killed whenever I eat a steak.

No, it's not healthy, it's not natural and it's not even eco-friendly.

Why is vegetarianism non eco-friendly?
I'm not a vegetarian, but that seems interesting...

It's actually very interesting, because it completely goes against what we think about vegetarianism.
The destruction of ecosystems for the use of land in growing annual crops is what makes vegetarianism not eco-friendly. Annual crops are what vegetarians eat. These plants grow once a year, using up the resources in the soil. Depending on how deep the topsoil is a farm could use this land for decades without replacing any of the nutrients it's taking out. But once that soil loses all its nutrients the field is dead and you're left with sand, it's the process of desertification.
Since agricultural practices rarely attempt to replenish the nutrients taken out of the soil, over long periods of time, say 8-10,000 years, we end up losing lots of fertile land.
Also, in order to have land able to be used for the growing of crops we need to clear the land. Depending on how much land is cleared you could destroy small ecosystems, taking the homes of animals that lived there, and taking their lives as well.
On the other hand, permaculture does the opposite of crop growing agriculture practices, while feeding humans with the food they evolved to eat.

^^But then, eating vegetables isn't ecofriendly at all, by what you said there -- not just being vegetarian.

Yes, I know, but whenever someone mentions vegetarianism I like to bring it up.
Keep in mind though, you can still eat veggies that are grown sustainably. I'm not entirely sure but I think all organic veggies are grown sustainably. However, the use of synthetic fertilizer, which I didn't mention, is what's keeping conventional agriculture producing food to this day. And it's not sustainable because it relies on fossil fuels.

Yes, because I cannot understand the philosophical conundrum of "Pigs are as intelligent as dogs, cats, and human toddlers. So doesn't that mean that butchering a pig is essentially as justified as butchering a human toddler? But wait, does that mean that we should judge our victims by intelligence? That can't be justified, because a retarded person with Downe's Syndrome has approximately as much mental capacity as a pig, and we would never think of killing them for retardation- in fact, we begin hardly sufficient help programs for peoples with mental disabilities. Wait, who was it who killed beings of inferior intelligence, such as people with Downes Syndrome? Oh yeah, that's right, it was HITLER! And thus, eating meat makes you more like Hitler."
Just kidding. The Hitler thing was a little overdone. Also, this post makes me sound like a stoner. Sorry.

@hobo Your post doesn't give a concrete reason... are you a vegetarian because you believe that we shouldn't be killing animals..?
