Simply put: I don't see anything WRONG with the current values, regardless of how they came to be.

Bomb's right (ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu--). The values would be more powerful if we all felt like we created them (I personally, do not feel like I had a hand in it).
But it'd be pretty difficult to redo them, considering the consensus is that they're just fine now. We can't exactly wipe our memories of those values.

no one said anything about dumping them completely, they COULD be redone...but by us not dan Right, I know. But I'm saying, how are we doing to redo them if we're all mostly in agreement that the ones we have now are great?

We're not. Because it doesn't matter, they're fine as they are. And it's not like many people even follow them religiously. [/thread]

there are guidelines in tribal leadership (seeng as you idiots still want to keep that ridiculous model) for deciding on values

Bomb's right (ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu--). The values would be more powerful if we all felt like we created them (I personally, do not feel like I had a hand in it). ...And thus the perpetual cycle of never-quite-satisfied-ism begins: Let me explain: I naturally would feel the same the same way. When these values were established I also didn't have a hand in them because I was a noob. But now I'm not. So if we re-do them now, then someone else who's a noob NOW will feel the same way 6 months down the road, then they'll say "Let's re-do the values again!" and so on... HOWEVER, that being said...If our values need revision, please feel free to suggest new ones!

i disagree. coming up with values as a "tribe" mis a rather time consuming and arduous process. it's way easier to take what is given and go with it than to start from scratch. however if made from scratch, they are more effective, more electrifying, more binding. people are more serious about what they created than what they adopted. That's why we will never be able to agree on any values. The people on here are far too different. I mean, the fact that there have been drama, and the fact that some people do not get along very well, is proof enough that we do not drag this wagon evenly, so to speak. We should have done that from the start if this community consisted of all like-minded people. But it doesn't.

so essentially youre saying that the values, no matter what they are, will always be incompatible...im inclined to agree. i think the tribal model is retarded for SPOTM but thats just me.

Most of us feel as if we had little to no input in creating the tribal values (which is true) so why can't we re-vamp, or re-do them? We're following values that weren't set by ourselves, so why can't we change them, or create our own?
Sure, down the line, newer members will feel the same way we do now - when that time comes, well, let's do it again. Why can't we cycle our values? Or change things up every so often? A lot happens in a year.
To reiterate, not only myself, but this entire thread - our values are incompatible with us - if we change it, it'll be incompatible with future members - and no matter what we do, there will always be a level of incompatibility. What we SHOULD do as, well, as a tribe (even though I agree with bomb that the concept is stupid - but we ARE called the PogoTribe (until we change it)) is work together, and come up with a set of values that we can all mostly agree on - it's how democracy works, after all.
If we want to change the world - maybe we should start by changing ourselves so that we're actually able to work together.

That's a sentiment I can agree with, but it's mighty hard to revise these values since there isn't really systems in place to facilitate revisions/additions. It seems to me that something like amending the US constitution would apply here equally well.Make it a "living document"

I agree with Aust, I mean, things have to change for the better. Also, the values should tell what we are as a tribe (possitive things, before any of you makes a joke *coughashercough*) so all new members (and us, old members too) know what to expect and how to act when we come here. But idk, I'm just saying, discuss... =P
