I think we can all agree, since Dan's detached himself from the forum our active members have declined. This might not be much of a problem to some people, but it means things are much less likely to get done around here. It's gonna be harder for us to change the world. So let's come up with some ideas on how we're going to attract members! CLICK HERE TO SEE THE IDEAS SO FAR, AND ADD YOUR OWN (Google Docs)

I'd tread carefully.
Getting new members in the wrong ways can destroy a community.

Oh, I know. I'm all for new members, but not new members that are here for the wrong reasons. They need to be here to be part of a good community that wants to do good things... not to win prizes.
I'm sure every idea will bring new members, some of which will be great. But it only takes a few doodooheads to make the community crap.
If I had any ideas, I'd have put them into action ages ago, though. =( Good luck.

Yeah, prizes will get signups... But they wont get dedication... I think I've got an idea that addresses this: If the competition is something along the lines of "Who can run the best project" they would be forced to get involved in the forum to win. I think if we did it that way we would have a high percentage of dedicated users sign up. As for prizes... maybe we can get Erin to do another awesome post-it thing. With a few blank spaces, and the winner can decide what she draws on them. I would pay for that.

2 questions about this competition. How do we draw new people in? And what qualifies a project to be better than another..?
Maybe if we did community projects we could get people that we meet IRL to join SPOTM... Although this would work better when we're actually doing real life projects...

How do we draw new people in? One way would be a Facebook event. Entitled something like "Change the world, win a... X" We could elect a couple judges to narrow it down to the best 3, then it could go to vote. Yeah that's a good idea. All these ideas flying around could get hard to follow, so I've set up a GOOGLE DOCS page that you can all edit (without having to sign in or anything) CLICK HERE TO SEE THE IDEAS BRAINSTORM

Hmm.. Prizes. If you're going to do a prize, make sure a person is not doing something for the prize. Make sure they're doing it because they want to. It seems to be working for my Freerice prize..

I'm not 100% how the pogotribe channel worked, though it sounds like what I have in mind. Mostly just get members how we became members. plug it through "new media" and that could go for personal channels as well as collab channels if desired.
