Hey SPOTM-- long time no see.
It's time to begin planning my world record attempt for most consecutive pogo stick bounces in earnest. Here's what I know (i.e. the PDF that I got in an email from one of my pogo friends):
Most Consecutive Jumps on a Pogo Stick (Male)
Record Holder: James Roumeliotis
Current Most Consecutive Jumps on a Pogo Stick (Male): 186,152
The guidelines for setting the Most Consecutive Jumps on a Pogo Stick (Male) record are as follows:
1. The jumper must jump without any assistance (either from another person or an object) for the duration of the attempt.
2. The jumper must fully control the pogo stick (i.e., the pogo stick may not be tied or otherwise secured to his body).
3. A bounce is counted every time the tip of the pogo stick hits the ground.
4. The jumper is awarded a five minute break for every hour of jumping completed.
5. A jumper may not rest for more than five minutes at a time.
6. Neither one of the jumper’s feet may touch the ground during the attempt (except during breaks).
*NOTE: All attempts must be confirmed in person by a Pogopalooza Organization representative or a reputable local news source.
SO! I want two things from you guys. First, try to figure out if there are any loopholes. If I can break this thing without putting forth any real effort that'd be awesome.
If there aren't any loopholes to take advantage of, however, then what I want from you guys is an attempt date. When should I do this? One week from today I'd like to put the attempt date on the calendar, so let's get to discussing. I'll check up on this thread throughout the week.

HOLY CRAP ITS DAN
Well, I guess the thing about it counting as a bounce once the tip hits the ground could be exploited, if you took really short hops for each one. Otherwise they seem to have covered most everything.

^Idk, maybe really short hops can be harder to do or may not be the more comfortable option. About the date: You'd like to have one one week from now... today is *looks at date* the 9th... What about the 20th? Hm, maybe that's too soon.

HEY DAN! I don't see any loopholes at the moment, but I haven't really thought of any. I'll edit this post if i see any. As for a date, it seems reasonable to have it in 2-3 months. That way, you'll have enough time to train.

Just because you asked us to throw a date out there - July 1. It's easy to remember, gives you ample time to get all trained up, and most important of all - It's Canada Day!

I think you should do it on the 4th of July. Then after you set/beat the world record you can have a barbecue and enjoy the magnificent fireworks.

I would think, if you wanted to.. you should do the record when Dan3.0 might end or the end of Year 1 of Dan3.0

Rest on your hand every now and then. Although this may conflict with rule 1:
I'm pretty sure the ground counts as an object.
Also I think any loopholes that you find will be overridden by Guinness, and they're revise the rules.

I second Rob's comment. July 1 sound good.

I think you should plan this to be around the last episode/day of D3P0. That way you have as much time as possible to get ready, and it would be a really cool finale type thing. :)

the 5 minute break thing could be loopholed. you can pogo for 1 hour then take a break then pogo for an hour then take a break, or you can pogo for say 5 hours then take a break then pogo for 4 hours then take a break then pogo for 3 hours then take a break then 2 hours then a break then 1 hour then a break and by that point you have banked 10 breaks so you could pogo for for shorter intervals inbetween breaks as you get tired towards the end...also you could use the time limit to take slower bounces thus conserving energy but still racking up the time for your breaks and then when you get to the end if you have enough energy you could do short time intervals with quicker bounces...also june 21st or whatever the longest day of daylight is would be the best day because the darkness of the night makes you lethargic and will make it harder to pogo, so if you can start the night before the day with the longest amount of daylight, or if it is overcast/raining on that day pick a day near that day.
it might be alot of random ideas but let me know what you think

and by that point you have banked 10 breaks You can't bank the breaks.

pogo - 5 hours break - 5 min pogo - 4 hours break - 5 min pogo - 3 hours break - 5 min pogo - 2 hours break - 5 min pogo - 1 hour break - 5 min pogo - 30 min break - 5 min pogo - 15 min break - 5 min pogo - 10 min break - 5 min pogo - 10 min break - 5 min pogo - 10 min
is how i meant. the breaks are broken up but the breaks are banked. it doesnt say that for every 65 minutes 60 minutes must be on pogo and 5 can be used as a break

Do this at vidcon (or before or after but just be there so more people can watch and it's symbolic to when you announced D3P0)

oic, good idea.
The only problem is that 5 hours straight is KUH-RAZY.

oh yeah i agree but it was just a random example of numbers he could go 2 hours then break for like 16 hours then 1 hours and break for 6 hours then 30 min and break for 8 hours or however long he needs to go to get the record...that setup is probably more likely

I agree that you should do it some time in the first week of July, not only for independence-based reasons, but also because I'm a tad greedy... I'm taking a trip out to lovely San Francisco for the couple of weeks surrounding the 4th of July, and it would be AWESOME to take part in this whole pogo-sticking shindig.
