Erin, I still think your way is too complex. If people want members with similar skills/interests in their triads, they can say that and form a triad on their own with those people. If they want a random triad, they can do it on their own.
WHY DOES THIS DISCUSSION EVEN EXIST? IF PEOPLE WANTED TRIADS THEY WOULD BE MAKING THEM ON THEIR OWN ALREADY.
As GingerRob said, triad success is all about motivation and commitment. People who need to be babied through the process clearly aren't motivated.

They're motivated if they sign up to be put in a triad

Sometimes people need extra guidance for getting things done. Not necessarily someone to hold their hand the entire way; that's silly. It's good to have that extra push forward, sometimes. I kind of already mentioned the third "sign-up" idea, which really isn't a sign-up idea at all. I guess what I meant to say was, if a triad forms naturally without going through any "official" triad process, they could have the option of being listed as a triad if they so choose. Or not. I've got to say, I really do hate the "official" label for triads. It'd just be nice to have an option for people just starting out on SPOTM, or someone who wants to work on something to go to a dedicated triad thread. Key word: OPTION. Nobody has to be a part of the documented triad process if they don't want to. Looks like you and Bomb don't want to, and that's perfectly fine. =)

I have nothing constructive to say, because Erin just said everything I was thinking... so yeah... what Erin said O.o

there wasnt a single successful triad. not one. sure they survived the PROCESS but none continued in a meaningful way past that

there ARE no guidelines. as a tribe progresses from stage 3 to stage 4 they naturally form triadic rather than diadic relationships. so as we get more stage 4 we will naturally gravitate toward 3 person groups rather than simple partnerships.
therefore...there ARE NO GUIDELINES. it just happens. you cant define a triad...it just is what it is. you cant make one either...they just form. question is though...will people realize it when they see it?
so everyone working behind the scenes...youre conferencing on skype...email...PM...just examine the nature of your partnerships.
the tribal leadership model is supposed to occur naturally around a set of common values. they cannot be imposed. that being said, they can be encouraged. in other words people can be encouraged to form triads around their projects rather than just working on their own or with one other person...but i dont think they should have any base on teh forum itself. a group can recognize itself, but i dont think we should devote forum space to it. i think it would be counter productive.
so what can i add? well, try and form triads with the people you work with and try to recognize it as a triad if it IS one. (dont force it) also another mistake made initially was the idea that each triad had to have 3 SEPARATE people. thats not true. 9 peopel can form more than 3 triads...more like 84 in different combinations. so my advice for triads? try and gravitate toward them but dont force it in yourselves or others. dont make it exclusive...you can be in more than one triad at once. dont waste time on projects for teh sake of projects. dont waste time on flags and SHIRT like that. shared values are nice but you shouldnt have to think about it. if you have to think about it then you obviously arent a natural triad.
if i think of anything else ill post it

josh lolno. You know that's not even close to true. SO many people signed up and then never even came back to the moon.. they didn't even know they were in triads... Then there are people like YOU who signed up, stuck around, but didn't actually do the work. Erin, I still think your way is too complex. If people want members with similar skills/interests in their triads, they can say that and form a triad on their own with those people. If they want a random triad, they can do it on their own. Looks like you and Bomb don't want to, and that's perfectly fine. =) I think guidance is fine.. if people want advice from people who have been in triads (or old members, or admins, etc.) then that's ok... but a lot of people sign up for triads for the sake of being in a triad, then don't do any of the work. I just... I don't think having "official triads" is going to make them any more effective. I pretty much ran the official triads before when Dan handed them off, and no matter how much I tried to help them, some [most] triads were just unfixable. But I know my opinion doesn't matter in the least, so.. yeah.. just do whatcha want.

I think there should be a greater point to triads. You join a group, talk, and do one project. Whop de flipping do. There should be (fun) rivalries versus opposing triads, with design contests, video contests, always trying to one better on projects than the others, forming a real bond with each other through triads, then going to other sections and being one whole tribe yes, but with that indelible marking of a traid on you. Just some FFT. And I think that we need to have some way to be held responsible, when Dan led them, he was responsible for us, he had deadlines and a major way to orgainze it. That is how it needs to be done.

Hm... that reminds me that I still haven't finished the finals chapters of Tribal Leadership. (I read most of it, though!) I know this is going to start sounding annoying, but what if we rework some kind of guidance system for the "triads," and call it by another name? Perhaps as a sort of "boot camp" for basic projects. (Yes, I am aware that there is a guide to projects thread... I'm just brainstorming a kind of course-type-thing? I dunno; I'm thinking out loud here.) Yes, triads do form naturally. I am not denying that. I seem to have forgotten that the triad project Dan started was basically an experiment, as well. It had its merits, don't get me wrong, but it also had a lot of flaws. Which has already been stated multiple times in this thread, so why bother repeating it further. I feel like this post isn't really going anywhere... =/ But I know my opinion doesn't matter in the least, so.. yeah.. just do whatcha want. Your opinion does matter! Feedback and opinions - regardless of whether they are negative or positive - are equally important in coming up with plans and decisions! =) Ultimately, it's not up to me (alone) to decide on whether "triads" get reinstated or not.

That's why I suggested reworking some kind of system. I agree with you that the flags (and everything else of that type) were a bit pointless. Heck, we could start completely from scratch and start our own system. Let's just not call it "triads" anymore, because that term isn't making much sense at this point in this particular discussion.

That's ^ what I was thinking. Obviously, the things we had before weren't real Triads, but that doesn't mean we can't have them. And just because we have them doesn't mean natural triads won't form. I mean weren't you ever put in groups in school? Maybe it wasn't a triad but that doesn't mean it was completely unbeneficial. You probably got some project done, maybe made some new friends, and even if you didn't carry on anything from it it might have still been a memorable experience.
It sounds like everyone's concentrating on the failed projects and the failed triads rather than any achievements that happened. Firstly, it doesn't matter if a lot of them fail, because you learn from failure. I know my triad failed miserably, but there were a lot of reasons for that and a lot of things I would change second time around.
It'll take some working on, since the old system wasn't great, but we're not talking about the old system, we're talking about a new one, so instead of saying what didn't work and using that as a reason to give up, why don't we see it as a problem we can solve to improve or completely revamp the whole system?
What Erin said about the first Triads being an experiment is a very good point. It means they had no guarantee of working. And Dan never fixed them or tweaked them to improve them, so they are far, far from perfect. They shouldn't be seem as something that was set in stone and will never be a positive thing, they should be seen as a test run that needs to be changed into something that can be beneficial.

but why waste time on it? maybe it really was JUST a failure? i dont see a reason to waste more time and energy on something that we know had a 100% rate of "who gives a SHIRT" and around a 75% chance of failure. seriously...it flopped really badly last time i dont see a reason for it at all.
you also have that flood of ridiculous projects that take attention off the good ones...soliekyea i say NO to any new triads.

YES it was a FAILURE, we're trying to make it NOT A FAILURE. Why the heck can't you get that? >.< Juh. Frustrate.
I want something like this so that new people have a sort of an ice-breaker. So that they get immersed in the community asap. If you have a better way of doing that then shoot.
