I am a um... communist and of course I am not a Pol Pot fan but just an average Marxist-Leninist. Disagree with my views, fine. Just I am new here.

its not the principals and core ideals of communism that people take issue with..its more the practicality of a sustained communist system...

Actually, Asher is right and I say it as a communist myself. I am still thinking about how that system would work, especially when people in Greece are looking for the best way to guard their ass only.

I failed. He is totally right.. Just didn't think that the question was asked.. But it was. :/ But Ray? GTFO you white-supremacist nazi anti-semetic. (Fun Fact: All of the above means pretty much the same thing.) A common misconception about the American economy is that we're completely capitalist, which actually isn't entirely true. It's actually more of a mix of capitalism and socialism, but speaking of which, Republicans are completely wrong that Obama's a socialist. Definition of Socialism: "The State or the people as a whole owning the means of production and distribution of goods, for the sake of equality or 'egalitarianism'. Socialists believe that the system of capitalism allows a small portion of society to have most of the power and wealth in a nation, and therefore perpetuates the unfair class struggle of 'proletariat' vs 'bourgeoisie'. If you hear the phrase 'distribution of wealth', that has to deal with socialism" Definition of Capitalism: "The means of of production are privately, rather than publicly, owned for the purpose of profit. The 'free market' determines prices, income, and investments rather than the State. Everyone from individuals to large companies have economic rights such as trading and employing workers; and money is provided for this system by banks." America has a mixed-economy in this sense, making it more suited to me, a Democratic-Socialist, who thinks that capitalism is an ok idea, but needs a bit of scruffing up to do. The State and the people have at least some control over the economy. Pls see: answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081010102615AAC9oVR for some really really good info on this. Probably better than mine.

actually obama may, ideologically at least, be a socialist...but he has to conform to the american system of economics which is, like swim said, a bit of a mix. much like communism, a purely capitalist system cannot last...so there are elements of socialism mixed in to create a balance...however we are predominantly capitalist

you do realize tha tthe "democratic" part of that is unnecessary...democracy is in no way a contradiction of socialism...i said ideologically i believe that obama is a socialist...not that he is in practice. IOW he buys into the tenets of socialism but cant act upon it.

Obama is a socialist. Sure he has some socialist qualities but he is support of big banks so calling him socialist is the funniest stuff I have ever heard.

Yeah. Just look it up. @ray How teh DING was that ad hominem? I gave a giant explanation and you were like "lolwtf?" Et tu Brute didn't make any sense in that sentence..
