So remember Dan's video about dreams and how he mentioned lucid dreams (you realize you are dreaming then take over the dream). Well i came across this site with 5 ways to hack your brain (you should check out all 5. they are very interesting) and one was how to cause lucid dreams. You need to keep a journal and write down what your dream was as soon as you wake up. So while you are dreaming you will recognize certain patterns you have had in previous dreams and realize you are dreaming. Also, it helps to think about what you want your dream to be about before you go to sleep so yeah. I'm gonna start doing this (I actually started last night but i couldn't remember my dream when i woke up). Anyone else? Heres the 5 ways to hack your brain: www.cracked.com/article/127_5-ways-to-hack-your-brain-into-awesomeness/

I've been doing this for a few years now. Sometimes I dream of waking up and typing my dream into the computer.

I've been practicing lucid dreaming on and off for about two or three years now. Right now it's off, but I'm going to start again. Right now I have a dream journal in which I write the more interesting dreams. Got over a hundred written down (which is easy if you remember 4-8 dreams a night like I do when I'm into it). And when I wake up from a dream I just jot down some notes on a cheap notepad and then I go back to sleep. It takes me about a week or two to go from 1 dream a night to more than 4. I've had about 30-40 lucid dreams, but half of those were pretty short. The best kind of lucid dream is the WILD - Wake Initiated Lucid Dream - where you basically go from being awake to entering the dream world consciously. Works best if you've already had a few hours of sleep (so the REM stages where you dream are longer and the intervals between them shorter). Then "all you have to do" is let your body fall asleep while keeping your mind active. Actually, that's the hardest part. But I can do it occasionally. Done it successfully about 7-8 times now, but I often just fall asleep and dream normally. For "normal" lucid dreaming it's indeed best to keep a journal of sorts, which almost automatically increases dream recall dramatically. And then you just try to figure out common dream signs. This is rather hard for me, since most of my dreams rank at "batsh*t insane" on the weirdness scale. Usually I just get lucky and realize that I'm dreaming for no apparent reason, or I'll do that falling asleep consciously thing. But yeah, since we spend so much time dreaming, I figured it's well worth it to get more out of it.

The WILD lucid dreaming is actually a really good way to do it. I do this quite a lot on weekends, since my body is set to wake up early, I'll usually wake up after a few hours and sleep, then drift in and out of doing that for a few hours. It's where some of the most interesting dreams I can remember come from.

I heard that if you drink a lot of water before bed, then go to bed with your hand in a bowl of water, you have the best dreams of your life.

If you really want to learn more about this WILD, then this would be a good place to start: ld4all.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35799Just remember it may take a bit of practice. But it's definitely worth it! Good luck! And @ zAkAtAk: That sounds like a real great way to get the wrong kind of wet dream, or am I imagining things?

Make sure to write down your dreams right when you wake up. I can't remember half the dreams I had last night, but I could practically recite them when I woke up this morning.

I hate them, they ruin the whole narrative of the dream, and as soon as my conscious mind gets involved everything is much less creative and not at all surprising. Okay it's fun the first time 'cause you can do anything, and it's fun when it's a nightmare because you can make all the bad stuff. but now when I realize I'm dreaming I just try to ignore it.
One way to do it is to think of a dream you have a lot and try to train yourself "That means I'm dreaming" So every time my teeth are falling out I'm like "hey Camus, am I dreaming?" And he's all like "yeah, now hand me the sponge".

I have a really really bad habbit of dreaming about killers and that kind of stuff. Whenever i see a killer or murderer I just say, "Hey! Look at that guy with a gun! I must be having another dream " and then it becomes a lucid dream. I'd say that happens about twice a week. Then once I have some fun tormenting the killer with some imagined weapons of my own I usually make myself wake up.

I have tried forever to do this, but usually I'm not even aware that I'm dreaming. I'd love to be able to do this sometime, though. It sounds like it would be really cool.

Having lucid dreams every night for a long period of time is a bad idea. Your prefrontal cortex is the only part of your brain that is awake at the time which gives the perception of a lucid dream. This means that your prefrontal cortex is not getting any sleep, and you are going to have some serious sleep deprivation related brain problems in your prefrontal cortex. Every once in a while is fine, though.
