This is an issue I believe is something that overlaps individual rights i believe that to ban tobacco is like saying to the people that smoke i don't like what you are doing so i am making you stop by law that is the issue i have i believe you should at least be able to smoke tobacco in you own house.

I don't like it when people smoke, but if they want to smoke, that's there own business. (Just like any other drug) (Now potential second-hand smoke is a different matter, and why smoking in public places should be frowned upon.)
Are they seriously thinking of banning tobacco in some place?

Oh that idea gets tossed around from time to time, and generally gets quashed rather quickly. Lots of groups (especially the medical community that sees the bills from smoking) would like it to happen, but it's not happening any time soon. It's a case of a few groups not choosing their battles wisely.

What about marijuana or other illicit substances? I personally think those being banned infringe on our rights just as much.

I'd like to see tobacco cleaned up, not banned. There are so many third party chemicals inside of packed cigarettes, it makes me sick. That's why if I were to smoke, I'd pack my own. It's much cheaper, and cleaner

That's what I was thinking haha. You can say "Well what about my heroin? I use it at my house, banning it is like taking away my rights!" Also, our government will never do that. They make a bunch of money taxing that SHIRT.

Why ban it? Let people fuck up their lives if they want to.

Tobacco should not be illegal. Neither should Marijuana. The rest should as they have a larger possibility of endangering others lives. It was already a mistake that alcohol was legal, however prohibition did not work at all in the US so I guess we have to deal with that.
Short answer: No.

The problem with smoking is that even if it's in your own home, you're not the only one smoking it.
The actual smoke travels in the air, poluting the air, and anyone who ever comes near you or comes into your house would also be smoking weather or not they want to.
And this is comming from someone who started smoking in the 8th grade. I try to keep away from non-smokers as much as possible when I do it.
When you're a smoker you eventually get use to the smell and don't realize when you're around other people and especially if you have people come over to your house, that you and your house is going to smell like an ash trey.
If you smoke outside the smoke can dissipate in the air outside and you won't leave a long lasting smell with you quite as much. Sort of like farting. But if you do it in an inclosed space like the inside of your house, the smoke is going to be in the air for weeks.
One thing I don't understand about all this is that all the confiscated drugs, cops take it, and to get rid of it so people can't smoke it, here comes the retarded part, they burn it. (talking about weed but if they ban tobacco they'll do the same thing with it.)

Cigarette smoke doesn't even put a dent into the quality of our air. We have much bigger things to worry about when it comes to pollution. Such as... Factories? Cars? etc. Travel to NYC, where there are cars everywhere, take a big whiff. Then, travel to the boondocks, where everyone's a smoker, whether it's a cigarette, or a pipe (I live in the boonies, so I know ). Then tell me which air smells cleaner, lol

Even if you're smoking in your own home, and even if it doesn't pollute the air that much, it still affects other people. I mean, my parents smoke, and I think it's gross. Can I do ANYTHING about it? No. I'm forced to live in their house, and I have no say in whether or not MY lungs are polluted because THEY want to smoke. I really don't think that this is fair, so I would support tobacco being banned.

Dude screw that. It's my own fucking house after all. More or less my property.Jeez. First they ban me from smoking in a coffee shop, then they'll ban me from smoking in my own house.Well fuck this. And let me just tel, that if you're not directly inhaling second-hand smoke,it gets scattered in the air along with all the other chemicals that pollute it,so technically you breathe second-hand smoke, industrial chemicals and all that jazz every single second of your life.Get over it.

Pluse I was talking about spicifically the insides of a person's house where the smoke will stay in the air longer than when you smoke outside. I supose a good comprimise would be that it's OK to smoke on your own PROPERTY (meaning outside in your yard) but still ban smoking inside your house (unless you live alone then it wouldn't matter either way.) but if you live with other people, especially children, you shouldn't be allowed to smoke near them. Smoking is of course illegal for anyone under the age of 18 and you could be arrested for distributing cigeretts to minors. Smoking in your house when you have children in the house should be treated the same as if you were allowing them to smoke because they are smoking. You may have chosen to be a smoker but your kids have not.

You may have chosen to be a smoker but your kids have not. In that sense, I didn't choose to be a smoker either (I'm actually not a smoker, but I'll enjoy the occasional draw). Both my parents are heavy smokers; 3 packs a day between them. I remember going to school as a very young kid, smelling like cigarette smoke, and the teachers asking me if I smoked. Believe me, THAT's embarrasing. The teachers' suspicions rose, and I finally had to tell my parents that their smoking habit was affecting my life. They understood, and they've been smoking outside ever since (They still do it because I have a 12 year old sister). Kids need to talk to their parents. If the parents wont listen to the poor kid, maybe you should reevaluate the real concern. Also, will someone please tell me how this ban would be enforced? lol
