What you're thinking of are initialisms. Acronyms are abbreviations of words that are formed into shortened, pronounceable words.
As for initialisms, I like 'em, simply because they're quick and easy. Also, I'd rather say "NSA" than "National Security Agency".

Yush. I love using initialisms, as they are much more convenient. However, specifically talking about WTF, STFU, or GTFO, I think people don't really realize that they are still implying the word <curse word starting with the letter F>, which may offend some people and may not be appropriate in some situations.

well who is to say right? I think all these a's (abbreviations) might be a bad thing. But we should really consider that these have gone from shortenings to words with their own meanings and contexts. afterall. people say "wtf" or "omg" and even sometimes "lol" in real life (the letters themselves not the words they stand for)

Yeah.. Fuck! LOL but the thing here is many people actually believe that acronyms are actually shorting out the enlglish language, and by doing this, the youth of tommorow will have less handle over complex words and will rahter write in an uncommon incoherent matter.

You know, we can say fuck, right? lol I do not curse on the forums. (most of the time... sorta) This is because (1) I don't like to do things that I may regret later and (2) I like to keep some kind of a semblance of an innocent little girl. ^_^

This is not something new. For centuries, people have been concerned about the ever-changing English language. All you have to do is read an English translated book by Homer, and you'll see how different English used to be. If anything, I think initialisms are a contribution to improving the efficiency of our language. Although, I do find it annoying when people say, "El Oh El" out loud and such, lol.
