So I just watched this video:
And around 1:00 he started to talk about a consumption tax and it pretty much sounds like a great idea. According to Phil, you don't pay a yearly tax, but instead when you buy something there's like a 20% tax or whatever then, which can be beneficial when it comes to areas like tourism and illegals because at the moment illegals aren't paying taxes, but when they buy things under the consumption tax, they're pretty much forced to.
But I also noticed that he didn't state any cons (or he did and I missed it), so if anyone could shed light on those, that'd be really awesome.
So let's discuss. Consumption tax? Yay or nay?

If illegal immigrants are going to start paying full tax they should get full rights as citizens, seeing as how they're paying for it. What kind of rights do they have in America already? Just basic human ones? Paying tax like a citizen should mean health insurance and education no citizenship questions asked. The country is already benefiting from the work of illegal immigrants who would love to have legal status, and this would basically be stealing from them if it didn't involve equal rights and benefits. Not ensuring these rights would also motivate people to not grant citizenship because you could make a lot more money off an illegal resident than a legal one as you wouldn't need to support an illegal one.
Otherwise i don't see anything wrong with it, seems far more logical than making ordinary people do their own taxes which I can't believe is done. Don't you guys already pay tax on everything you buy though? I remember every time I bought anything in Boston when i was 13 i had to pay an extra 15% on top of the price written, which was really frustrating and embarrassing and nonsensical as i couldn't figure out why i had to do maths and why they couldn't just write the real price on everything.

Good point, but aren't they technically stealing as well, since they're not paying taxes like they're supposed to.

Paying tax is not a charity nor is it rent. Citizens pay taxes so that the government will take care of them and their society. Taxes are the wages citizens pay the government and the investment citizens make in their own country. If the government does not acknowledge you as a citizen and treat you as a citizen and afford you citizen rights why do they have the right to demand money from you in return for nothing?
