Pagan wedding rituals came long before any mainstream religion that spoke against homosexual weddings. And many pagan beliefs do not discriminate against homosexual marriage. I think that answers the question.

The south (sorry for stereotyping) believed that God approved of slavery. Apparently, they were wrong. Most religious folk (sorry for stereotyping) believe that God disapproves of gay marriage. Obviously, IMO, they're wrong, too.
There's a lot of interpretations of the Bible. There can't be 2 rights and no wrongs. Somebody's interpretation has to be false.

I think that answers the question. my point exactly. The truth is we don't know everything about the old religions, it's possible they were homophobic and misogynistic (although considering the goddess worship, probably not.) Geararld Gardener, the founder of Wicca certainly was homophobic, although Wicca itself is very welcoming to the GLBT community, a great benefit of not thinking of GG as an unquestionable prophet... but I think someone in an earth based spirituality who feels that kinship with the earth and looks to nature for guidance and tries not to harm others would probably see 1) homosexuality is natural 2) it's not harming anyone ergo, homosexuality is a-ok neo-pagans don't have a problem with homosexuality many pre-christian societies didn't, had Christianity not overtaken the Greek culture homosexuality simply would not have became an issue (while the Romans who overtook the Greeks were more strict, I think the Greek mindset would have persisted through them) Edit: Yes and I know Wicca falls under the umbrella "neo pagan" but some believe at it's core, it's traceable as a pre-christian religion, perhaps the very first. I am not one of these people.

This has probably been said before, in some form or another, but I'm a little too lazy at the moment to read through 10 pages before posting my opinion.
I believe that homosexual couples in the United States should be able to take part in a civil marriage/union that would grant all the same legal benefits as a heterosexual marriage (visitation rights, inheritance rights, tax benefits, insurance benefits, etc). I believe that this route would be the most fair as homosexual couples would be viewed the same as heterosexual couples in the eyes of the law, and the church gets to hold onto its traditional definition of marriage as no one is forcing them to preside over same-sex marriages. This also will help to further define the line that separates church and state, which has been blurred and skewed for far too long, IMO.
Also, a note for any who read this that are against same-sex marriage: What freedom of yours does this infringe upon? How does allowing same-sex marriage negatively affect your life? Because, as far as I know, the men who founded America believed that all of mankind is created equal with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which no one can or should be allowed to take away.

I don't know if there was a bond like marriage in societies before the big religions tbh. would be very interesting if someone had some info on that. what do you define as big? compared to today the populations of the world were much smaller so religion size reflected that but you could argue that this had more to do with population (and many civilizations violently promoted their faith) but also note it is not incredibly surprising that modern christian marriage came from ancient Jewish law, which largely came from ancient Egyptian faith www.kingtutshop.com/freeinfo/Marrage-in-Ancient-Egypt.htmand of course it should be noted that iron age Celtic weddings were very advanced in regards to womens rights and protections. (moreso then bronze age middle eastern people, for instance) www.celtlearn.org/pdfs/women.pdf

People who don't want to let gay people marry are very, very stupid. I'm just sayin' I wouldn't go as far as saying they are stupid. I just think they are very strongly based in their views, and want these beliefs of theirs to be respected. Although I personally agree with you on the core of what you are saying - they should perhaps keep to themselves and ask themselves if it actually affects them. Pagan wedding rituals came long before any mainstream religion that spoke against homosexual weddings. And many pagan beliefs do not discriminate against homosexual marriage. I think that answers the question. Thank you! So I think that makes it obvious that even if they don't get marriage, they should all get the right to civil partnerships.

Denying people basic rights based on a characteristic that is not developed. Just like saying your a woman, you cant vote. Your a black man, work for me.
