Off the book on the word offensive

You guys may know about the rhyme and flows I know.
But today... Today is different! I want the light of the collected knowledge of each and every tribe member about this particular word.

~OFF THE BOOK~

I want to know what you guys think about the word "offended".
You see, I have lost the grasp of the meaning offended, because I personally am not. No matter how hard I try to understand why people are offended by certain things, why do people get offended by certain ideas and thoughts. I have a couple of friends that are the same way (one is African-American and one is Mexican) and they both think like I do.

We aren't offended!

Why is this? I don't know, but why are others offended by words, because words only have as much power as we give them. Words like "Nigger" are derived from Negro and that used to be a commonly used word for African-Americans! My friends and I don't understand how stereotypes offend people, because they only have meaning if YOU think they do!

Don't let mainstream media bring you down and tell you that certain words are "Offensive" because they're only offensive if you THINK they are, or if others do in the same fashion.

In this way, if we were to raise awareness about this flaw in human thinking, we may be able to make the world a better place!
When someone calls my friend something spiteful and stereotypical (such as chicken eating) we just come to a general agreement that that person is ill informed by the mainstream media SAYING these things are offensive, which they are only if you make them to be.

There are things that offend me, but those are actions, not just words -- unless those words are, of course, a means to the end that is an offensive action.

I am offended when people attempt to stop gay marriage.

I am offended when people issue death threats to prevent free speech.

I am offended when my government pulls millions of dollars out of education, and then spends millions of dollars on turning a historic site into a bar.

I am offended when children are raped, and more offended when there were people who knew about it, could have stopped it, and chose not to.

Well, maybe angry is a better word for those things. But then, I suppose that's what being offended is. Either way, my point is that there are things worth being offended over, even if you no longer find yourself offended by words alone.

Yes, you say you're offended but WHY? Those things mentioned aren't offensive, they're the product of the evil and stupidity of people, well, except for canada. Those things happen, and they will, and it makes me angry too but not "Offended*

That should be an easy one, actually. It's because you care about your fellow people, and the word being used as a derogatory term is insulting and offensive to others, even if you don't necessarily know those others personally.

I care about fellow humans, it's just that I'm asking why you are offended by the stupidity of a stupid person.

Derogatory terms are only offensive when you see the person that is using it as an equal in intelligence, when using a derogatory term that person is resulting to a very low low in insults and you might as well look at that person as a lesser being for using such petty terms.
Said person may NOT be a lesser being but using such infantile insults is really an embarrassment to humankind.
