I'm all for it. Granted, I have a bit of a personal bias to agree with this because it can save several lives in my family, but if it can help four people in one family, just imagine what it can do in the rest of the world!
I see most of this forum agreeing with it, with a select few voices against it. Most of the internet, as a matter of fact...we tend to be very liberal...

That definitely seems like a very true thing...it's strange how the internet often has a different general opinion that real life. Although, in this case, Stem Cell Research still would probably come out top in a vote - just perhaps not by this much.

Yes, stem cell research is good. Yes, we can derive cells from adults. No, they are not nearly as productive as fetal stem cells. Yes, the interwebz is full of liberal elites who get high off their own farts. Yes, I am one of them.

Technically, it is not fetal until 3 months, and we derive stem cells from abortions, which occur almost exclusively first trimester. Colloquially, we refer to them as aborted fetuses however, and that is the context in which I was using the word. Still, you are technically correct, and technically correct is the only actual correct, so correction noted.

Really we should avoid that colloquialism. It's a misinformation that plays right into the hands of the religious right.

Really we should avoid that colloquialism. It's a misinformation that plays right into the hands of the religious right. That's a good call. It's best to not have a perfectly logical argument undermined by the semantics of poor word choice and incorrect casual usage. Thank you for correcting me. =) +1 to your proper debate procedure rating.

What people don't understand is that stem cell research no longer requires dead fetuses. They now know that you can find stem cells in the discarded umbilical chord, in the gums of most adults, and in some other places that have no harmful affect on the body or any babies. There's not reason not to explore this field, because they're starting to develop ways of creating organs out of stem cells, which could extend the average life for humans by a considerable amount, although I assume at a steep price (money, that is).

This point has already been made. In most cases, adult stem cells are notably less versatile than embryonic stem cells, as up to this point we still don't know how to effectively get around the inevitable somatic differentiation that occurs.
