So jmejia1187 pointed out a webside in a different topic that provides "scientific evidence" for the flat earth theory. Here is their web side: www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.phpso here is my question, where do people like that come from? It seems like every logical argument is easly shut down with "Govermant did it" or a scientific statement that I never heard about, and frankly doesnt seem to have and backing. Believe it or not, I know a person like that here is his Youtube accound (the last comment is mine): www.youtube.com/user/777truthseekerhe is the dangerous kind, mixing conspiracy theories with religion. Is there anything I can do to make him normal? Oh, and one more thing, if you could support my "crab people" thory herehttp://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?topic=39230.0 just don't call them crab people

There is nothing we can do. They are a hopeless cause who refuse to see anything as real. As are the holocaust deniers, and the people who still believe in alchemy, and those who think creationism is on par with evolutionary understanding. These are all nutcases that come from the land of fairy tales and conspiracy theory. No amount of evidence can convince them otherwise. I say we ignore them as long as they are not harmful to society, and once they start killing people, we try mocking them back into a place where they don't hurt us normal people anymore... Wait... Isn't that what we did with the muslims in Draw Muhammed Day? I recede my conclusion, but my premise still stands. I think these people with a limited understanding of science and reality should formally be excluded from science, and reality. Let them form their social groups and talk conspiracy and pseudoscience. And then in the background let us hope that their influence not mount up to proportions where they influence the law to support their inaccurate agendas. Wait... That is already occurring with the Texas school board: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wfdz7b8jNncwww.youtube.com/watch?v=SKW9isRJqhgwww.youtube.com/watch?v=-wOS5tIwX5g (watch from 1:20) Damn, it seems like us intelligent people who insist on evidence before making decisions can't get away from nutcases... I vote we make an outpost somewhere they can't touch us, let's say... the south pole of the moon. HOLY HELL it is already happening too? Then perhaps there is no point to my post.

we shall wage war of logic on the unbelievers! War is not the answer. It is like the war on terrorism. How will we wage a war against people willing to strap a bomb on themselves to kill others? The answer is education. And if it is a war, they have obviously laid the first strike by bringing in an indecent amount of stupidity.

I think it's pretty much harmless, I mean if they wanna live in ignorance that's fine, its not like they're engineers who are ignorant of physics since it's not like it effects their day-to-day lives. Their conspiracy theories have no place in science and will be swiftly dismissed unless they can provide incontrovertible evidence (unlikely). It would be different if they were trying to get this stuff incorporated into the education system (to my knowledge they aren't) but even then I doubt they would be successful.
EDIT: I should add that to my knowledge this "flat Earth" community is fairly small, which is why it is harmless. If it were bigger I'd be more concerned.

If the earth were flat we would not have tide cycles. I dont even know why I am responding to this it is so silly. Whoever created this thread is a troll.

The thread wasn't actually about whether or not the Earth was flat; it was about how people come to believe clearly absurd theories such as that despite clear evidence to the contrary. Also, I'm calling Poe's Law on that site.
