So here I am watching this peace of SHIRT called a scientific documentary.
And it gives me a feeling I had for some time now. It seems to me that all of the great self proclaimed scientists of the 21st century (like that asian guy) are idots, thinking what the future can be, but not adding anything new to the scientific community. I also have a feeling that all of the REAL research is being done by big corporations, and they are the real heroes of the scientific discovery.
I don't know, maybe its just me, but majority of the "scientific" documentaries I find seem a bit...dumbed down, like they were made for a bunch of idots.
So what do you think?

The fact is you will rarely see a scientist that makes a single great new discovery. In the vast majority of cases, scientists individually add data little by little to our pool of data and go relatively without recognition. And to be honest, I think that thinking about the future to some extent is necessary, because in a sense it gives you a target to aim for with your progress.
Moreover, I'd suggest that even scientists working on projects that in and of themselves seem unimportant can discover information and methods that will be useful to scientists working in fields we do deem as important.
And one other thing to consider: what scientists in big corporations discover can often become patented to that corporation, leading to problems such as with the genetic engineering of food. Because company xyz is the one that discovered the new rice that can grow super-healthy and super-fast, nobody else can grow it without paying xyz royalties, preventing this inexpensive rice from being used effectively in 3rd world countries. Big corporations do add a lot to the scientific pool, but it's hardly altruistic, so there are problems even there.

Well think about it, Science can't advance until technology does. Technology has been advanced quite a bit, and we are just now learning the best way to use it(Internet, Fiber Optics, all that jazz)

zAkAtAk, OMG so you never missed a letter when you were typing. You don't have to be an ass..... ... Yes, but generally when I am typing a thread topic, I try to at least keep the header spelled correctly.
