.. or are we not?
I believe that EVERY single person with the same last name is family of each other.. not really the family like we all know it (mothers, brothers, sisters, etc.) but they have a similar family tree and therefore they are connected in a way..
The same with friends, you know at least 3 persons who know other person you also know..
What do you guys about the whole connection? Are we connected or not?

Well, last names originated from trades if I remember correctly, and not all butchers were related. =P However, there have been a lot of generations since then, so maybe we ARE all related.
I do believe in the friend thing, though. What about that thing where you can connect yourself to ANYBODY through 6 people?

It's easy to say we're all related to some extent -- all life on Earth is related to some extent. Even the family dog is somewhere on my millions-of-years-old family tree. The question is, how far back do you consider related? Or perhaps more pertinent to this particular concept, are strangers with the same last name actually more likely to be related to you than strangers with a different last name?

I dunno about relations but I am interested in that whole connection to ANYBODY in 6 ways. Name ANYBODY in the world and I'd find a connection to him/her in 6 or less... people.

Six Degrees of Separation? YEAH THAT. I think that's really neat. Interesting stuff, indeed.

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?!
But seriously, this really interests me. Well, give it about 50 years and Ancestry.com will find a way.

Last year in my video film class, my teacher brought in this guest who he's friends with. He's an actor who worked with Kevin Bacon once (we watched a clip of it, forgot what it was of though). So let's see. Kevin Bacon>That guy> Me> you. That's only 4 degrees!

Basically: You know people, those people know other people, those people know other people, and so on. Everyone is related somehow...now that I think of it...what if your husband/wife or whatever is your 267th degree cousin o.O lol.
