The only time in my life when it's proper to talk about masturbation is at my school, and they tell some pretty disgusting stories about their experiences. If you masturbate, it's best to keep it to yourself.

so, since pretty much everyone does it, and therefore it isn't big deal, then there's no point in talking about it on the moon unless an interesting new perspective on it can be presented, and that anyone who admits to doing it won't be seen as anything other than normal. sound good?
but something that makes me extremely frustrated is when people lie because they think the person they're talking to can't handle the truth, or that they don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. how does this make sense? and how the hell do you get people to stop? censorship always does more harm than good, i thought this was established a long time ago.
as for why everything comes back to religion, duh. we get down to foundations of peoples ideas here, and obviously reason and beliefs are usually peoples' mental foundations.

It's not that people don't admit it; it's the fact that the majority of the people I know who do admit it act like it's something to brag about. It's suppose to be something private if you do it, and a lot of people I know don't seem to understand that (They also have the nerve to call me an immature, annoying dickhead. Go figure.).

Sexuality is a large part of our identities, and masturbation has an important role in our sexuality.
As a woman, I understand how decades of "nice girls don't do it" can have a lasting effect on us regarding anything and everything sexual. Ladies don't have sex drives. Ladies don't think about sex. Ad nauseum.
As for the argument of simply not talking about it? I don't think that's the right way of going about it, either, especially for women. That's actually part of the problem. Did you know that there are actual classes for women in which you explore your sexuality, examine your vagina in great detail, and learn to masturbate? It's about being at home in your body, comfortable in your sexuality, and loving everything about yourself.
(Please note: I have never attended one of these workshops, and am unfortunately unable to provide more information than this)

I think girls are held to a higher standard when it comes to sex and a lot more things like hygiene, etc. It's like the same reason that when a guy sleeps around he's a "playa" but when a girl does it she's a "whore" Look at it like this. Males: keys. Females: locks. You have one lock and a lot of keys can open it. It`s quite simple actually it just needs to be quite good looking. Now that`s a pretty crappy lock. One key who can open a lot of doors on the other hand. Now that is a master key. I state. Everyone masturbates! In a survey conducted under the health minister under Bill Clinton the people of USA answered such: 70% - 80% off all women masturbate. 90% of all men masturbate. "Everyone else is lying" In that she meant that the other 10% of men lies and the other 30% - 20% of women lies as well. No that is probably not completely true since there are individuals who are 100% asexual (Have absolutely no interest in sex of any kind) And some people actually manage to live in celibacy. But these are very few people I do not know the percentage but it is estimated that 1% of the earths total population are asexual. I can not answer for those who chose celibacy. My point is. Most people masturbate (Even in the holy and oh so righteous USA)

I know it's slightly unrelated, but just worth pointing out that while asexuals may not find either sex attractive, they can still get the same sexual urges. But anyway, as I see it, like sex, it's not something people should be ashamed about or feel the need to restrain from, but at the same time it's not wise to go round talking about it to people...

I think I remember reading in an online article once 250 people die from masturbation. When you masturbate the tube carrying oxygen to your brain stops for about a second. This is just like playing the choking game and it gives you a relaxing sensation for a couple of seconds. It can be as addicting as drugs like cocaine. The problem is sometimes the tube will stop for too long or just stop completely. Too many of your brain cells will die and so will you. Just remember masturbation can cost you your life O.o

Umm did you even read the first post? lol I said I wanted to discuss why society views masturbation the way it does. I never asked whether or not people masturbate. There's no reason to just end the discussion. Also, people keep saying "we all do it, but we don't need to talk about it." That's my point. Why does everything think it's something we shouldn't talk about? Why is it so taboo? It's as natural as pooping, which we also don't talk about. I guess my main point here is that taboos are stupid and pointless and should die? You're not gonna die from masturbation, btw. It's healthy in moderation, and even if you fap 10 times a day, it's still not detrimental, and it's definitely not gonna kill you.

Everyone should think it's ok to do.
We should all just...shake hands.

My guess to the start of the taboo is religion. People started viewing it as sacrilegious and unholy, so it's been frowned upon by society. That's my guess.

@winston my bad. yeah i agree that taboos, and any notion of badness or awkwardness should be done away with, and only when logically looked over and found to be harmful, should something possibly regain it's status of being something wrong to be doing, ie killing.
random fact of interest. it's bad to be on antidepressants for long periods, because they restrict the hormone that causes orgasm, or otherwise generally exctatic behavior.

^ lol that would be a blood vessel? and thats BS It's not B.S. There have been plenty of cases when a person dies from masturbation. I would send you a link to a story, but considering my mom looks at my history randomly sometimes I'd rather not take the risk of looking up "person dies from masturbation."
