Yes, I say we let actual professionals who want to stop the problem (at any costs) take over. I don't understand why they hadn't done this sooner...

It's quite simple really. The government doesn't have the means to do too much about it.
All of the technology in the world capable of this kind of extreme deep sea mechanical operation belongs to -- guess who -- the oil companies.
The best the government can do is to use whatever means possible to coerce BP into getting SHIRT done in a timely manner, and paying for all the clean-up. As far as how they've done doing that, I give them an 8/10.
