I have noticed that there was an attempt to make a book club in which people would read the assigned book, but knowing that I myself would be too lazy we could have discussions about very famous books. We could use this thread to get some books going, and then have a new thread for every book we discuss. If we can get at least 3-4 people interested in discussing a particular book that would be awesome. So post books you'd be interested in and we could get something going.
I personally would love to discuss: Brave New World Lord of the Flies and 1984 as soon as I finish it.

I think maybe there should be threads about certain types of books. I personally absolutely LOVE fantasy books, and what are considered children's books. Things like Harry Potter, and this really awesome dragon series by Chris D'Lacey. And I really like most vampire books, except twilight, which I guess is ironic, seeing as its the series that started the whole fad

I could get behind a fantasy book thread, so I can imagine other genre threads working well for readers of those genres. I pretty much read exclusively fantasy and non-fiction, so a genre specific thread would be more likely to get my attention than an unfocused book club (not that the latter is bad; just not for me).

I think a genre specific thread might be too hectic, I think for each book would be easier, although making a non-fiction thread to decide for the books would be a very good idea.

Well, a genre-specific thread wouldn't be too good for discussing individual books, but it would be great for posting reviews or thoughts on books you just read, and thereby leaving recommendations for others, right? (In the same way I think you meant about non-fiction books.) Book specific threads are good too, but only if you can be sure more than a couple people have actually read the book in question.

Yeah that's all true, that's why we need at least 3-4 people per book. If we get enough people on this thread hopefully we can expand into specific genres and beyond..............

Read The Jewel in the Skull the other day because I saw it in the new books section of the library. The story was okay, but the exposition was terrible. It exemplified what people mean by "telling not showing." It almost felt like I was reading a summary of the novel, not the novel itself. Events came and went quickly, and the whole thing was quite emotionless.
