~Necrothread~
Anyways - my favourite manga of all time has been and always will be "Full Metal Alchemist" - I've been reading it since it was first translated
There was much squeeing on my part when Ed FINALLY confessed/proposed to Winry in the final chapter Now, manga that I read that's still ongoing, well, there used to be a nice number, but then OneManga stopped hosting. Sadface.
SO! I'm now limited to "Black Lagoon" and "Spice and Wolf". They are quite awesome.

I read comics. And I read a wide variety of styles, too, including Asian-styled comics. Notice how I'm not using the word "manga"? Yeah... I'm not fond of the word. Partly because it's usually only used to refer to a style of comic and the region from which the style originates, but also because it's just another word for comics. That aside, I'm trying to get into One Piece right now. I need something to fill the gap that Full Metal Alchemist made when it ended. I read Naruto, too, but I really don't like the fanbase that much. I used to read Bakuman, but I lost interest in it a while ago. I might try picking it up again someday. Fine if you wanna get Technical is technically called a コミック (Komikku in Romji) which is comic in Japanese. Also Manga originates from the word 漫画家 (Mangaka in Romji). A Mangaka writes, and usually draws, a Komikku. Therefore "Manga" does not come from being japanese and it's style, but the fact that a Mangaka wrote it it becomes a Komikku, or Manga. In Conclusion, The words Komikku & Mangaka can be traded out for Comic and Comic artist at any point.

Do you read manga? If so, which and which are your favourites? Do you buy them or watch them online? etc. etc. DICUSS! I'm sorry, watch manga? I think we have a contradiction here. The only managa's I've read that I liked were Deathnote and Loveless. (neither of which I finished.) But in general, I'm not a big fan of anime or manga. I love Studio Ghibli films, but that's about as far as it goes. I don't watch them with subs and I don't obsess over Japan and looking "Kowaiidesune!"...

Loveless is awesome! It's the one I enjoyed the most while watching and I have some issues of it. They're in Japanese though, so I just collect them.

In Conclusion, The words Komikku & Mangaka can be traded out for Comic and Comic artist at any point. Komikku and manga are synonyms. Manga is the original Japanese word, and komikku is a loanword borrowed from English. Both mean the exact same thing: comic. I do tend to distinguish manga from comics if only for convenience. There's a big difference in the genre and selection between the two types, and I find little of interest in general in North American print comics. I read a lot of webcomics though. My manga bookshelf currently holds: Ranma 1-36 (complete) Maison Ikkoku 1-15 (complete) Genshiken 1-9 (complete) Ceres: Celestial Legend 1-14 (complete) Magic Knight Rayearth 1-6 (complete, Japanese language) Gestalt 1-7 (complete, Japanese language) Slayers 1-8 (complete, Japanese language) Negima 1-27 School Rumble 1-16 Hayate the Combat Butler 1-15 Skip Beat 1-21 Fairy Tail 1-11 Claymore 1-16 Pumpkin Scissors 1-5 I can't recall all of what my friend has loaned me in the past, but it includes the Spice & Wolf manga (I have the first two light novels out so far), Ah, My Goddess, Black Lagoon, Doujin Work (awesome), and a couple of those four-koma moeblob ones... Sunshine Sketch was one, I forget the other. Oh, and Gunsmith Cats (also awesome). I normally also have one series I'm not caught up to the most recent issue with... that was Skip beat last, but I'm caught up now. I'm poking through series to see what I might be interested in. Might check out Anima and see if it's worth following, I saw it in a Chapters the other day. Although people keep harassing me to check out Bastard, so I suppose I should do that too.

Now that I think about it I've had MyMangaList all this time, and I could have just linked to it to show what I've read, am reading, and other stuff

I very much do not care for anime or manga. To me it's like country music, it's just all the same and not that original anymore. HOWEVER that's just my opinion, and with that being said...For some reason I went to animethon 2010 ;D

For some reason I went to animethon 2010 ;D I can sorta agree that a lot of anime has become rather same-y - the big three certainly come to mind. One Piece is ( in theory) finally ending, and Bleach is certainly going in an ending like direction - but for all we know, it'll take years before either actually does - and the road it takes will be very repetitive. Meanwhile, Naruto will likely NEVER end. But - I can't agree with the analogy of anime being like country music. While there are a lot of formulaic anime out there (like any romcom anime where the male and female featured most prominently in the OP are the ones who end up together) there's always going to be a substantial number of original concepts out. It, unfortunately, isn't a case of "for every DragonBall clone there's a Full Metal Alchemist" but it isn't so bad that you have to look really hard to find something original, really good, and worth reading/watching Unlike Country music, which is a flowchart production - it takes some SERIOUS effort to find an original country song. But yeah - if put on the spot, I can think of at least 10 original, well fleshed out anime/manga/light novels/whatever off the top of my head

Honestly, I used to love the style of anime when I was a kid...Until junior high when all my friends decided they were 'anime artists' (while at the time, I wanted to be a cartoonist. Like as in, 3 panel comic strips) After not much time, almost all of my 'anime' friends were drawing near identical pictures, and their characters were regurgitated versions of either sailor moon, or neon genesis evengellion.
Anyways, when I went to animethon a few months back, I was walking around the artist's area watching many of them draw...And everybody was drawing the exact same thing...Some ridiculously hot girl standing at a 30 degree angle, with rodent ears and holding either a large sword or ball of energy.
ANYways this is where I've gotten my impressions from. I'm not dissing anime, just giving my observations. It's not for everyone, but on the other hand, I totally understand how if it's your thing, it's REALLY easy to get totally lost and absorbed in it. That being said, it IS however - extremely formulaic. Just as much as anything else. (Eg: Big eyes = Anime)
EDIT: I need to give credit where credit is due: Astro boy is freaking awesome!!!

I have been a big fan of manga in the past, though financial reasons have resulted in the decline in my reading over the past few years. I really enjoy manga by CLAMP, Kaori Yuki, Yuu Watase, as well as indivdual titles like Full Metal Alchemist, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Death Note. I used to like Bleach and Naruto, but I've grown bored with them.

I used to read a lot of shojo manga... but then the magazine Shojo Beat died... Now I just don't know what to read anymore.
I have large collections of Ouran Host Club, Pita Ten, and Skip Beat.
I would like to read Sand Chronicles, but they do not have it at my library... and I really don't like the idea of reading things online.
I really do enjoy manga, but I haven't had the time or money to read it lately. =P
