I played high school football for 4 years, started three and actually played a linemen position (left guard, I also played Defensive tackle)
And frankly I don't think football and dancing are the same at all Not that dancing isn't as good, in fact I think in terms of personal growth and expression it's by FAR superior but I just don't think they're very similar. in terms of physical differences, my experiences of physical development the major focus of linemen experience was to use our footwork to build strong stances and a physical foundation to enhance our strength and effectiveness it blocking And though I don't have any personal experience with dancing I can't see as building a foundation to add power to your moves and hits would be a major part of it Lol

I've heard of football players taking ballet classes to improve their performance on the field.

Suppose I'll take the dancer's point of view in this one: We've had football players(3, unless I'm leaving someone out) whose coaches wanted them to be more nimble and fast on their feet, also more aware of their bodies, if that makes sense, in class who were wonderful(and really helpful for lifts:P). But we've also had a couple who were completely against it just because they were being forced to "prance around in frilly dresses" (for the record, no one was made wear a dress). They didn't learn anything, while those who kept an open mind about it learned something about themselves, and dancers: that we really and truly are hardcore athletes.

No I haven't played football and I don't enjoy watching it. I'm more into the artsy sports. In the more popular sports it is usualy just trying to control a ball which I think is not very creative, but in the artsy sports there is more room with the creativity. They are both very different... but... it is a common to see the two sides fighting. This is why I put it on the south pole of the moon because I thought it would be interesting and it is because I haven't heard anyone talk about dancing being completely stupid and being very girly.

First, let me validate my opinion by saying I am a male dancer who has grown up in a family that loves football. Almost all of my uncles, cousins, my brother and my father all played football and I feel no resentment for it, only an understanding and respect for the game.
To be either a male dancer or a football player takes incredible physical strength and dexterity. They both take years of discipline and motivation. They are both very entertaining to watch. I think in those respects the two are VERY similar. Mentally, they are very different. Football requires quick thinking and decision making. Dance requires memorization and attention to detail. They're both very admirable to master and both very worthy of respect in my opinion.

i a agree with almost all o what kevin says. the part i disagree with (or misunderstood im not too sure) is that yes football does require split second decision making but football player (at least good ones) will study there playbook for hours a week till they know every position they need to be in on any given play the coach call and they also have to study the other teams playbook and know exactly what they are going to do depending on how the other team is lined up. if a play is executed perfectly with the utmost attention to the details of who the lineman are going to need to block there should always be a hole for the running back to run threw. and as i think about this more i would have to say if you are an offensive player you would need more of the memorization and if you have the attention to detail you will not need the quick thinking and decision making (but it never hurts) and if you are on defense you will need more of the quick thinking and decision making.
