I think that the entire plot takes place in reality (note: several times where Cobb is teaching Ariadne and tries to spin his top and it topples, and other times when he spins the top and it topples). At the end though, Cobb never actually wakes up from limbo. He 'wakes up' and sees everything he wants to see in the real world (the mission's complete, he can go back into the country, his father is waiting for him, and he gets to see his children).

Did anybody else notice how much there was water in the film...it seemed to be a recurring theme... what could THAT mean?

That Indian guy had to pee, so the second layer had rain, and the rain went on the sleeping people causing rain in the 3rd layer, and etc.

Okay, I may be trying a little hard here, but I really loved the movie and this is what I thought.
At the end when you see the spinning top and we don't really see it topple over, I think it's not necessarily literal. What I mean is, I think it was just asking the broader (more broad?) question, do we really know the difference between our dreams and our reality? I think we all as humans have a general sense of our own reality. But I'm sure we all know that different people perceive a different reality for themselves. I think that at the end, when we think Cobb has woken from his limbo, his dream, he is finally in reality; but I think it's his reality, what he perceives as real instead of the dream. But because we are different from him, the line between dream and reality is blurred; we don't know for sure. Which is why we don't see the top fall over.
okay, enough ranting.

I'm really into dreams, phycology, & the human brain, so I liked the "totem" part, because I actually [sort of] have one. I always wear a bracelet that says "Legit". I always look at it/play with it, which also becomes a habit in your dreams. In my dreams, I can't read, the letters are gibberish & dance around. So, I'm able to think to my self, hey, would this happen in real life? Of course not! Once I've recognized the fact that I'm dreaming, I can go lucid, then do whatever the heck I want. I love my bracelet so much.

I love my bracelet so much. That is so cool! Almost makes me want to try making my own kind of totem to try that out myself. I'm the same way, I've always been interested with dreams and the like. In the movie, I got excited with all the mazes and such they were making; especially the endless stairs/paradox.

I finally saw the movie after a year of waiting and many... many.... people trying to spoil it for me. (I couldn't watch it when it came out because I was on vacation... which made me really mad). This is my kind of movie. Totes mah goats. It's not that I can't decide on a theory, it's just... none of them are good enough for me. I mean, the movie was so good, yet there are so many flaws with every single theory. I do, however, find this theory VERY interesting: halphillips.tumblr.com/post/822919795/inceptionThinking outside of the box though, I don't think this was Nolan's intentions. I love all the discussions around all the theories, but I don't think there is a single one that is the absolute right.

Wow, I get it now.. it all sorta makes sense. Maybe Nolan did do it that way?

It's a very good theory, but I don't think Nolan intended it to be like that. I don't think Nolan intended for there to be a single right theory. Like... I wrote it down somewhere on skype the other day...
"I personally have no favorable theory." I don't think that Nolan didn't know, I think that he chose to make it that way. [8/3/10 10:52:21 PM] Jocelyn: There might be some super complicated thing in their minds, but whatever they chose to project into the movie, was that they wanted to keep it ambiguous [8/3/10 10:52:42 PM] Jocelyn: With every single clue throughout the movie proving all different kinds of theories [8/3/10 10:52:54 PM] Jocelyn: but never proving a single one [8/3/10 10:53:16 PM] Jocelyn: and keeping it so that there is some flaw with every single theory
