Edit: I've had this idea up for a few days now, but I should stress that I now know of 6 good friends of mine who are all leaving soon for Afghanistan. This task was originally placed just as an idea... now it's personal. I want this passed, for them. I hope you'll understand why I suggest this idea be voted to the top for Dan to accomplish. revision3.com/dan30/task/put-together-a-military-care-packageAs a member of the US Air Force, I'd like to see Dan put together a military care package for troops serving overseas in Afghanistan (most fighting Iraq troops will be out at the end of this month.) I have a few friends who are actually being deployed VERY soon, and I know they'd appreciate it. I put this idea up a few days ago, but even though it did get quite a few votes, it didn't make it. I believe it just got pushed down the line and nobody saw it, so I'm asking for your help. This is an easy task that requires nothing more than your help to vote it up, and possibly sending some items/money his way to put the package together. The task itself brings us closer as a community, pooling together resources to send to our troops, and it's one of those "big things" that people always talk about doing here on SPOTM. Please vote for this idea.

This is one of the best ideas I have heard thus far! And I have voted for over 200 pages of ideas so far! *voted*

I appreciate your support, though I'm disheartened to see so little involvement here.
I'm seeing some of the "accepted" ideas...
1) Walk to a nearby city 2) Change your wardrobe 3) Give us a house tour
Forgive me, but it angers me when I see ideas like this getting pushed to the top when there are ideas like mine sitting in the wings, unnoticed.
Seriously people, I know he asked for us to start small, and these are definitely small things, so I can't complain. But Dan only has approximately 12 "big" things he can do in a year, and his first one is to visit Danielle in Pennsylvania. Next, we're sending him on yet ANOTHER road trip to Montana to put together a song with Hank Green. What's next?
I repeat myself. Putting together a military care package is an excellent idea for both Dan and our community. Personally, if we can get this idea passed... I personally will send Dan my Wii to put into a care package. I'm not expecting everyone else to donate as big as I will, but I'm sure Dan can/will get a LOT of great donations for this. People will jump at the idea of sending Dan something for the US military. It will get the community more involved with Dan 3.0, and I think Dan will have a great time putting it together. AND WE HAVE THE TIME. With Dan going to Pennsylvania and Montana, it leaves plenty of time for us to send him stuff.
Let's say this idea gets passed. Next step? He visits a recruiting office to get ideas for what to put into a care package, records the conversations, and puts it on YouTube. Two weeks later, he brings in BOXES and BOXES of items into the military recruiting station. Can you imagine the looks on their faces? They will FLIP.
This is such a simple, yet intensely gratifying and positive idea that there is NO reason he shouldn't do this. The gratitude he would receive (not to mention possible publicity) would be astronomical. Nobody has been able to pull together thousands of people to do something like this for the American troops fighting overseas.
Might I also note that this is pretty straightforward, compared to the other big ideas?
1) Break a Guinness Book of World Records record 2) Visit Danielle for her birthday 3) Write/Sing a song with Hank Green in Montana
All of these ideas are great, but require quite a bit of planning and stress. Let's give Dan a break and have US do the work, eh?
This is your defining moment. Make your choice.
If you dislike this idea, you are not my friend. I don't care if you're not from the USA, our boys are suffering over in Afghanistan, and they deserve respect and recognition. If you still think this idea is bad, fine. Keep voting for silly, meaningless things, like, "Learn how to say 'Hello World' in ten different languages."
But, if you like this idea, you've come to realize that this isn't just an awesome act of patriotism, but a truly remarkable feat, as there hasn't been a single celebrity out there who has managed something like this. You realize this idea is exactly the kind of thing that we've been talking about getting Dan to do from the second we heard about Dan 3.0.
Please vote.

From all the stuff that gets sent in for a wall, I think that even if you could draw a picture for them and send it to dans PO box to send it to troops would make them super happy.

I love and voted for this idea. It makes all of my silly suggestions just seem infinitely more silly and defeating to the idea of 3.0

Thanks to you all who voted for this. I'm not going to give up... I promise you we'll get this passed before the end of the year, though right now it seems like it's probably not going to make it. If anyone has any ideas on how to spread the word and get this passed, that would be much appreciated.
