I just wanted your thoughts on racism. I hope no one here is, but more I wanted to know what other types of racism there is, and to see how devistating and demeaning it is. Have you ever been around a really racist person? How has racism affected your life? Have you ever been hurt by racism?
It personally makes me sick when someone makes a racist joke. Even thought I am a fourteen year old boy and most of my friends do, I always feel like throwing up when I hear one. At first I let it go by because of blending in, but recently I started to tell them not to say jokes like that, and it seems as if alot of the other people who never made jokes but still laughed at them felt the same.

I'm usually the butt end of Asian racist jokes, because they're *sarcasm* oh, so funny *sarcasm*.

I'm glad to say that I've never been involved in or witness to any egregiously racist incidents. Obviously I've heard people who of course don't normally think in that way tell racist jokes. Just wanting a laugh doesn't make it much better, though.

I live in the south and sometimes race can be a big thing. I think most of us have learned to laugh at it. In my school, racism is....well, funny. People make jokes about race all the time. And they're just jokes. I don't think anyone in my school is actually dumb enough to actually think that the stereotypes or jokes are actually true. But like I said, we all just laugh at it. Whites make jokes about blacks and vice versa and people get a good laugh out of it and there's no hard feelings. Maybe that's just how it is here.
I can't remember who said it, but I've heard this quote that "Comedy is tragedy plus time." I guess time has allowed us to take something silly like racism and laugh at it.

When I came to Canada, I didn't speak any English, and although most of my experiences here have been good ones, there have been times when people were racist towards me.
I don't think that one group making jokes about another is acceptable, even if they are just for laughs. People should always have respect of the culture, religion and background of others. Also just because a group makes fun of your own doesn't justify you making fun of them.
You might not notice it (specially if you are in the majority group), but some jokes are very hurtful and only show intolerance and simple-mindedness of individuals.

"Everyone's a little bit racist Sometimes. Doesn't mean we go Around committing hate crimes. Look around and you will find, No one's really color blind. Maybe it's a fact we all should face: Everyone makes judgments Based on race."
Seriously, when your a kid, you allways hear grown ups tell you "its only words". Stop me when you recognize the rhyme: "Sticks an..." Right, so apperently when you hit somekind of magic border, around 10-years of age, youre allowed to take offence.

Bonus points for Avenue Q, there.
But yeah. Racism is not a sensible idea but unless a person acts on their racism, with verbal or physical violence aimed at another person, it's really harmless. Unfortunately, people act on racism much more than they do with other ideologies, so it does become a real issue.
